Driving Lessons is out in the world now, and I hope you like it <3 credits: mixed and mastered by @mixedbywong drums: @ruviyamin written, and produced by me artwork cover photo taken by @skyyeknight Being an indie-folk artist to me means I find deeper meaning and overthink the most mundane things, like driving. Sitting in the car with someone is such an intimate feeling. When I was really little, my dad sat me on his lap with the car parked in the driveway and I would pretend to drive. Mom drove us to kindergarten and back and I’d tell her all about my day on our ride home. My grandfather taught me how to drive. He would talk about his childhood, laughing to himself about the time he drove my great-grandfather’s car into the drain when he was learning. He told me about his driver’s test. How it was pouring rain, and he made mistakes, but they went unnoticed. He repeated those stories many times; I should have known someday his memories would fail him. I feel the weight of watching them age, and the ache of knowing this mundane moment is so precious. Holding the memories at the back of my mind, I wrote this song. About my grandfather, about sitting in the car with my parents, watching the moon follow us home. Roadtrips with friends, riding in the car with my friend Sandi, a wise lady with a beautiful heart and voice, saying while driving round Nashville; “Better to get there late, than not at all”
