🚨Calling All Artists🚨Our friends at @obviousagencycoop are offering an online workshop for artists on Cooperatives for Creatives. Read on for more info: After years of participating in an unjust economy, artists and culture bearers are searching for viable alternatives to the traditional models of cultural production. Cooperatives and the solidarity economy are gaining traction as a values-aligned solution. But what’s the difference between a worker-owned cooperative and a purchasing cooperative? Is an ensemble a cooperative? Is talking about ownership inherently capitalist? In this workshop, participants will learn about the fundamentals that define cooperatives and how they differ from other types of collectives, explore case studies of cooperatives in the arts and culture sector, and brainstorm how a cooperative could meet their needs and the needs of their communities. Participants are welcome to join as individuals or alongside their collaborators, and will receive resources for further study into various cooperative models. For more info check out: /event-details/cooperatives-for-creatives-online

“What the mask of the Queen of the Night affords me now is so much more than I could have ever initially imagined. She is a celebration of my past self, of the freedom and unbridled joy I always wanted to feel as a closeted, scared, young singer. She is my cheerleader helping me to redefine what it means to be a soprano in the opera industry. And she is my companion and confidante as I continue to venture into this career of making art, of making space, and celebrating my community. Now, I can finally say that the they/them/theirs of me and my voice are here to stay, welcoming continual disruption of my own perception of what gender is and can be, and of what it means to be a soprano.” THE QUEEN IN ME 📍Venue: Fei & Milton Wong Experimental Theatre at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts (149 W Hastings St, Vancouver) Friday, Sept. 12 at 7:30pm Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7:30pm Doors open at 7:00pm Post-show artist talk and Q&A included with $85 tickets. – The Queen in Me Co-Produced by @nightwoodtheat , @amplifiedopera , @canadianopera , and @theatregargantua Created & Performed by @teiyakasahara Co-Directed by Andrea Donaldson & Aria Umezawa Pianist: @davideliakis Set & Costume Design: Joanna Yu @joannayudesign Lighting: André du Toit Projections: Laura Warren 📷 Photo by Dahlia Katz The Queen In Me is supported by the TD Ready Commitment, Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, McOuat Partnership, Vectorworks, and the Wuchien Michael Than Foundation. New article just dropped in @thelasource about THE QUEEN IN ME 👑 by Lillian Lao. “I hope for a renewed perspective on opera, but also specifically on the power of the stories we tell, and to not take them for granted,” they share. “Even though this [performance] is talking about opera specifically, it’s more than that; it’s about gender, race, ability, class, [and] systemic oppression.” To read the full article check out the 🔗link in bio.
