Raves for Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s ALL OF A SUDDEN out of #Cannes. Come see his 140-minutes-shorter TOUCHING THE SKIN OF EERINESS on Tuesday—its first New York screening since 2019. Tickets on-sale at the link in bio and official description below. On the occasion of his new feature ALL OF A SUDDEN debuting at the Cannes Film Festival, Amnesiascope presents Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s rarely seen TOUCHING THE SKIN OF EERINESS. In this ingeniously concise project—the prequel to a film that is still yet to be made—Hamaguchi uses his preternatural skills for dramaturgy and staging to explore genre cinema. Upon his father’s death, the reclusive Chihiro begins living with his older half-brother and channels unspoken feelings into his sole passion: modern dancing. Chihiro’s relationship with his dance partner grows increasingly strange, mirroring the routines invented by their intense teacher (renowned dancer and choreographer Osamu Jareo). As unnerving occurrences pile up in town, their dance takes a dark, metaphysical meaning. Never released in theaters or on home video, TOUCHING THE SKIN OF EERINESS marks the opportunity to see one of our greatest filmmakers come into formation. #ryusukehamaguchi #allofasudden #cannes2026

Some shots from Raúl Ruiz’s RICHARD III, screening next Monday, March 30 @bkcentertheatreresearch . Tickets in bio. “My mise-en-scène focused on the object: it’s about King Richard III and his vertiginous power. More than on a character, I was focusing on a mechanism: the play of power.” — Raúl Ruiz

Bob Dylan praises The Unknown in a 2007 broadcast: “It’s a movie all about arms.” See Tod Browning’s silent-cinema landmark, starring a chameleon-like Lon Chaney and rescored to a dense catalogue of Dylan’s music, tomorrow night @bkcentertheatreresearch . Ticket link in bio.

Tuesday, 10/14: Amnesiascope presents Tod Browning’s silent masterpiece THE UNKNOWN rescored to the music of Bob Dylan. Tickets now on-sale in the bio. Since its release in 1927, THE UNKNOWN has been subject to merciless edits and paltry musical accompaniment. The fullest surviving version of the Lon Chaney horror picture is here presented in a radical reimagining, Dylan’s music—from fan favorites to his deepest cuts—expanding Browning’s vision: in conversation with, juxtaposing, and contradicting the tale of a carnival performer (Chaney) and his merciless attempt to win the heart of a fellow star (Joan Crawford). Tuesday, October 14 may be the only time this version of the film is ever presented—a profoundly rare opportunity to experience Browning’s landmark.
