this past November I raced across the Canary Islands as part of the 5th edition of @granguanche.audax Trail. I was the *6th finisher overall and the only woman to ever complete any of the Granguanche races in Audax pace— the fastest way to connect all the ferries from island to island— and if you ask @matminelli , this one is the hardest. 5 islands, 4 boats, 3 days 11 hours 15 minutes. maybe you’re wondering why I’m bringing this up months later, start of a new season, everyone’s attention on newer shinier things— honestly idk, except that I didn’t really talk about it at the time, and I want Mat’s photos to see the light of day, and I’m stuck at home desperately trying to figure out my next housing and employment and all the real life shit that I spent the last 7 years avoiding in one big glorious daydream. & a lot of you seemed to have missed my retirement “announcement” buried a couple posts back so maybe this will get it across. there are times I think I’m an idiot for giving up the career, probably a lot of you would agree. but the real reason it took me so long to say anything about my last race is that I was spent, not just spent from riding 900km and 20000m in 3.5 days, spent from seven years of begging people to believe in me, asking my body to wreck itself, shoving to the side all the other things I love to make the improbable possible. & also, selfishly, after years of pressure to milk everything for content, I finally had a race and a result that could be mine to do with what I wanted, nothing riding on it, and what I wanted was to keep it to myself. Granguanche was the perfect end. it’s the hardest I’ve ever ridden and the furthest I’ve ever pushed myself. the Canaries are the most jaw-dropping awe-inspiring place I’ve ever been on a bike and it was all amongst some of the best people I’ve ever met. I still have nerve damage in my little fingers. I finished in torrential rain, in the dark, stomach turning over, back seizing, door slamming shut on a chapter of life, too tired to cry, too tired to even be nice to all the beautiful people waiting for me at the end. I’m sure this isn’t the end, though it feels like one. thank you everyone 🥹👏

Amity (@amityvil ) arrived in Santa Cruz de La Palma late in the evening, under persistent rain, completely worn out. Over the last four days and three nights she had slept only a few hours on the floor, living mostly on snacks and junk food from ferry bars, mini-markets, and gas stations. After 900 kilometres and plenty of good and rough moments, she wasn’t exactly in the best mood, but she made it just in time for dinner before the last restaurant in town closed — arepas, papas bravas, and a 0.0 - She took a shower and at last got some real sleep. Hats off to Amity! - 📸 @matminelli

packing my bags to fly to Spain on Monday and thought I’d share some images from the first time I packed them, for a shoot with @yamaggucci and @banta.visuals 🧚🏻‍♀️ I don’t think any of these bags have been fully unpacked all season since— ok partially cause I’m really bad at unpacking but mostly because they’re so dang convenient, for anything from international travel to a last minute weekend trip. and somehow they still look as new as the day I got them. one last journey for the year before the bike stuff gets swapped for ski gear :) current faves: RoundTrip duffel for staying organized with up to a week’s worth of stuff, Aion duffel for a day trip or easy small carry-on 👜

a bittersweet late summer-early fall after a v challenging spring. goodbyes are hard even when they’re right and this year has been filled with them. this will not come as a surprise to any of you who have talked to me at all this year but this is my final season of professional racing. more on that later and surely some teary recaps and thank you’s on the way but I’m tired of dancing around it! I’m done. is it even possible to retire from a sport that is everyone else’s retirement plan? some good loaves and roadtrips and Mendo time and a few local podiums (@grasshopperadventureseries Lost Coast 🥇 @grinduro 🥉 with a Truckee girls sweeep and @heartofgoldgravel 🥇). local racing is truly where it’s at. if you haven’t seen the spirit of gravel in a hot minute it’s cause it’s hiding out at events with less than 150 people and uncrustables at the aid stations. my final pro race will be @granguanche.route Trail on the Canary Islands. maybe this time I’ll figure out how to actually finish an ultra. 🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️ 2nd and 3rd photo @b.tuckerpics 🙏

an unexpected and altogether wonderful opportunity arose to shoot for @ridealso a few weeks ago— a mysterious DM (love those) turned into some nice chats wit @akc___ugc turned into a blast of a day in the hills of Fairfax with @ldwyersf @schierholtz @instantmullet @cameloverland and importantly, @brysonmalone — always wanted to shoot with this guy and the images speak to why. no surprise that when you put together a bunch of people passionate about sustainable transportation @rivianofficial and some high achievers from the cycling industry, you end up with something truly innovative. this thing is SO much fun and it was also very special to attend the launch event last week and see what else they’ve been cooking— maybe someday they’ll donate a quadcycle to the coffee pop-up I’ve always dreamt of :) massive thank you to everyone involved, and especially to @creedub for the connect 🤝 pics by @brysonmalone except the last two which are outtakes from @3rd_larry himself! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

My first big time MTB podium 😭 This has been such a long time coming and I couldn’t be happier it came together at a race like @parkcitypoint2point and among a bunch of really great friends!! It’s rare that an event nails absolutely every aspect of the experience and PCP2P does just that— ridiculously good course (must have been 98% singletrack), nicely staggered start waves, lovely people and atmosphere, great social coverage, great photographers, dialed crew/aid stations, useful race merch, excellent course marking, and some prize money to boot. I could go on but if you like racing your mountain bike for 6-10 hours in nice places with good company I don’t see it getting any better than this. The legs from @breckepic came through in a big way and I feel like I paced the effort super well, pushing a hard groove up the long climbs and letting it go on the descents. Def a home advantage to be had here and was grateful for the few pieces I was able to recon the week before. Never even saw @chels.bolton who set a blazing course record or @itshaleydumke for that matter and missed out on a proper head to head battle with @shreddy.j.betty but overall so happy with how it played out. No mechs and only a few silly little tip overs and one tree punch. Absolutely could not have pulled this off were it not for the STELLAR assistance of @hanner.gross and @samisgross22 🥹🥹🥹 Not only did they give us a bed the night before, they know this event inside and out and the aids were F1 level dialed and the vibes immaculate and they bought us pizza after so idk how anyone will ever top that. an absolute honor to have their help iluuu guys ❤️❤️❤️ 3x 2x320 mix in the packs which I admittedly never quite finished, and 4 gels? 5? idk it’s a blur. Schwalbe Rick XC 2.4 front and rear at 16/16.5 psi. Flawless. @macklambertmedia behind the camera 🙏 and the last video by my crew :)

Ohhhhhhhh Breck. Nearly two weeks later and my lungs still hurt. I do a lot of hard, stupid things and a lot of stupid hard things on a bike and this is up there with the hardest of them. 6 relentless days of effort almost entirely >10000 feet above sea level, singletrack yes but also the worst fire roads you’ve ever seen and plenty of hiking for good measure. Was an absolute privilege to race a stacked field of women— I went in thinking I could manage a podium or a few but best I ever had on a day was a (losing) fight for 3rd. And honestly I’m proud of the effort; of how deep all the girls went and how great the energy was across the entire field. I sabotaged myself a bit by sleeping on the ground most of the week— sleeping anywhere at 10k feet is hard enough— and for sure could have been more dialed in my approach but hey that’s what happens when you decide to race a week in advance. I *purchased* this bicycle with my own money as a fun bike not a race bike and with the shortest notice ever, @_meat_ @raceface @ridefoxbike flipped it into an absolute machine. 34 SL Factory fork in 130, Float SL shock, 60mm Turbine stem, Transfer SL post and a set of Next SL rims. Not only does she look mean she dropped a few pounds and feels buttery af. Also many thanks to @schwalbetires for sending a bunch of rubber options— the Ray/Ralph combo in 2.35 narrowly won out over the Ricks for having a slightly more aggro center tread to handle the ‘stremely dry and loose trail conditions. Thanks also to @pocsports for the outfits and the comfiest hydration pack ever and the Cytal which I am loving for absolutely everything these days. Fueled every 3-4 hour stage with 2x 320 @maurten_official in the reservoir and gels to supplement as needed. Thanks to @orangeseal for the exceptional mech work, @slopestylebikeandski for being an awesome local shop to work with, and ultimately, @breckepic themselves (hi Mike) for the opportunity. Gravel has felt like such a dead end this year and it’s soooooo great to feel welcomed in the XC scene. Speaking of which..,,, @parkcitypoint2point is Saturday. Same exact setup but with the Rick’s this time. Seeee yall out there :)
