🖼️🖼️🖼️ So much good art in NYC right now! Here is a little of what I saw in the last week:
💪🏼 Carol Bove at the Guggenheim. I can’t really explain how incredible this show is. You have to see it for yourself. The scale, the steel, the colors. 10/10, will go again.
🎨 Also SO nice to see the Kandinsky and Munter paintings here. I saw many of these at the Tate in 2024, but didn’t get to spend enough time.
🖊️ Keith Haring at the Brant Foundation. Good show, compact, several things I hadn’t seen before.
🧩 Marcel Duchamp at MoMA. Still processing. Didn’t know he was a classical painter, didn’t know he had an alter ego named Rrose Selavy (last slide), didn’t know a lot about him, as it turns out. Going to need to revisit. Massive show. Give yourself plenty of time if you go.

📷 The 1st photo perfectly sums up the kind of year it’s been. I spent a not-insignificant amount of time staring absently up at the sky, asking, “What the hell just happened?”
📈 There were great moments—guest teaching at SCAD, lots of incredible art, many friend hangs, galavanting around Italy and other spots. I did some interesting work and also said no to things.
📉 And for all the weird/not great events of this year, I don’t feel like any of that was down to bad luck or cosmic shenanigans, Mercury in retrograde or doom loops. That’s just what the hell happened.
🌟 Still, I’m ready to put 2025 in the rearview and get into what’s next. For me that includes a LOT of creative projects: design school at Pratt, more Italian classes, a new Substack. All good things. HNY and ❤️ to you all🫡
📣 Friends! If you’ve been following along, you perhaps know that Starving for Beauty, the micro-influential beauty Substack I wrote with my co-author Lesa Hannah, published its last issue this week! (TY @lesahannah 🫶🏻)
💡 Being on Substack these past 2 years has been SUPER educational; for all its challenges (pricing, CMS, plagiarism — ugh), I found it to be a mostly (!) positive place for writers/creators. And though I’m not 100% sure what’s next for me, I DO know that the experience solidified something I already knew: I like to make stuff!
🖼️ Here’s a recap of my personal SFB greatest hits, design edition. I created/designed most of the art, including the logo and banners, which as it turns out, was one of my favorite parts of the process.
🔮 Thanks to the readers, colleagues, friends, and collaborators who make Making Stuff so worth it. You can hop over to Substack to read our archives (for free!). And I will see you again super soon ❤️
🎉 Aguri a me! A capital B Birthday in Florence, and truly no place I’d rather be (if not New York). Thanks to @officialbrads for making this one so epic (!), and thanks to friends here and far for making me feel extra special ❤️ Also, elephants are welcome anywhere as far as I’m concerned 🎉
