I think the hardest part of coming to terms with losing someone who means the world to you is realizing you only lose that person once. Pain gets easier because life exposes us to it over and over again. But the pain of losing someone or knowing you’re about to, never does. No matter how many times it happens, it doesn’t prepare you for this loss.

Because the people we love are one of a kind. They touch us in ways no one else can. So death or impending loss, never gets easier with time. We don’t love people the same way; each connection is its own universe. And when that universe is gone, there’s nothing else like it.
