Check out the teens-only chapter of Silent Book Club Easton at the Ames Free Library!
At Silent Book Club, there's no assigned reading (teens, we know you get enough of that at school). Read anything you like, in whatever format you prefer (just please remember headphones if you prefer audiobooks). We'll generally meet in the Teen Den on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.
5:30 - 6:00 PM: Show up & get settled!
6:00 - 7:00 PM: Reading time!
7:00 - 7:30 PM: Optional socializing time!
Prefer feeling cozy while you read? Feel free to bring your own pillow, blanket, etc.!
Ames Free Library is closed today, Friday, May 15th for Staff Development.
We will resume regular operating hours tomorrow, Saturday, May 16 at 10 AM. We hope to see you then!
Prom season is upon us again, and local students will be coming to enjoy Queset Garden as the backdrop for their photos!
We welcome all photos in our historic and beautiful gardens, but understand that larger crowds can make visiting the library difficult for many of our patrons. We have been in communication with our local schools and hope we can all partner to make the season safe and memorable for everyone.
If you hope to visit the library on a prom night, you can expect:
๐ธ a full parking lot between the hours of approximately 3:30 PM and 6:00 PM
๐ธ potential traffic backup on from Main Street
๐ธ increased foot traffic in the parking lot and surrounding areas
โผ We are aware of the following prom dates: Friday, May 15; Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, June 4. โผ
Waiting for Theo of Golden by Allen Levi? You're not alone, the hold list is a long one!
While you wait, here are some similar reads you might enjoy in the meantime. These recommendations come from NoveList, a readers' advisory database you can access anytime (free!) with your Ames Free Library card.
Looking for something a little more personal? We've got you covered, you can also fill out our Reader's Advisory form on our website to get customized recommendations from one of our librarians.
๐ฌ Save this post for the next time you need a book to hold you over
๐ฉ Send it to a friend who's also waiting on a favorite title
๐ And tell us in the comments: what books would you like to see featured next?
Hot Off the Press! The Queset House Makerspace heat press is ready for use!
Register for this program to learn the basics of using the press to put a design on various objects (tote bags, tea towels, mugs, coasters, and more!). Each registrant will select a pre-formatted design and an item, and will get hands-on instruction for using the press. Once you know how, the press is open for use at any time Queset House is open, and you may use it independently (with your own supplies).
All materials are included for this workshop. If you bring an additional cotton t-shirt (light colors are best), you can also make a bonus wearable design in addition to your class-supplied item!
For adults ages 18 and up only. Registration required.
Registration for this event opens Tuesday, May 12 at 9:00 AM.

Still looking for a last minute Mother's Day gift?
(Or a pick me up for yourself? We don't judge!)
Come by the library on Saturday from 10a-5p to grab any of our remaining Blind Date with a Books, each just $2!
This free presentation will cover home energy efficiency and clean energy solutions, discussing ways to reduce household energy costs, improve comfort, and lower your environmental impact. The presentation will also review programs and resources that can help make energy upgrades more practical and affordable.
The Greater Brockton Energy Collaborative (GBEC) is a group funded by EmPower Massachusetts that works to advance meaningful climate action in Brockton. GBEC focuses on expanding access to home energy efficiency solutions and incentives, especially for underserved communities. GBEC promotes inclusive environmental education, outreach, and practical energy efficiency improvements that benefit everyone. GBEC Energy Ambassadors help support partnerships across local campuses and the broader community.
Free and open to all. No registration required.
Every month, gather with local teens in the Teen Den for an hour of creative writing.
Weโll provide prompts, pens, and paper; all you need to bring is your magnificent mind (and anything else you may like to write on or with)!
Want to share with others? Go for it! Prefer to keep your writing to yourself? No one will make you share if you don't want to!
Whether you're into poetry or prose, fiction or journaling, or anything in between or beyond those categories, you're welcome here!

Every month, teens & adults are invited to come together with Youth Services Librarian and tarot enthusiast, Hannah, for a tea-fueled exploration of tarot cards and intuition.
Whether you're an experienced card-reader or simply curious, there's space for you! We'll get to know each other a little bit, discuss the basics of tarot, then learn how to read a simple 3-card spread for ourselves. Enjoy time to chat with others and guide yourself through some self-discovery.
