We're lost in a Belle Époque daydream ✨️
French for “The Beautiful Era,” La Belle Époque is considered the period in French history between the end of the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 and the start of World War I in 1914.
Arts and culture truly flourished over these forty-three years. Fashion flourished too! This was a time when fashion was less practical but more lavish.
Charles Frederick Worth, widely considered the father of haute couture, founded his couture house in Paris in 1858. His elaborate ball gowns and opulent day dresses, like the one pictured here from the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, were embraced by European aristocracy and wealthy Americans.
Fans were a quintessential accessory for fashionable women during the Belle Époque, serving as both a practical tool and a symbol of elegance and refinement, as seen by the one pictured here, from the collection of the Cooper Hewitt Museum.
Looking for the perfect footwear to go with your opulent ensembles? From our new Color Refresh collection, the Elsie Edwardian Pumps in pink are based on antique originals from the early twentieth century and are accurate to 1890-1920.

Have you met Laurel? These alluring shoes were inspired by beaded shoes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
When we first launched Laurel in our Moonlight Sonata collection, we offered three colors: classic black and soft white, and dusty lilac, inspired by a lilac suede pair dated to c. 1910-1920, from the collection at the MFA Boston.
Now Laurel is available in rich burgundy smooth leather, with shimmering black glass beads, perfect for fall and winter soirees.
This gorgeous Edwardian shoe closes with a period-accurate tabbed tie closure with coordinating ribbon that allows for a customized fit over the instep. Laurel features our custom, perfectly balanced 2.25″/5.7 cm French heel.
Plus, Laurel is available in both standard and wide widths!
Laurel in burgundy is 15% off through May 17 during our Color Refresh Collection pre-order sale. This style has an estimate shipping date of October 2026.

Romantic boots with ribbon laces were popular in both the late Regency and Edwardian eras.
One example of 19th century lace-up shoes: this pair of silk satin boots with silk grosgrain ribbon and leather, made in England circa 1818, from the collection of the @lacma .
Around the 1910s, the Tango dance from Argentina became popular throughout Europe, as did Tango boots, which were designed to lace up the leg, which showed off the leg lines (and stockings) of the dancer.
