I wanted to create a ‘sound wave’ effect to my jacket to reflect my brand inspired by the energy of techno music. To achieve this I used a Canadian wave smocking by hand technique🪡 I cannot even begin to calculate how many hours this took but I’d say it was very successful😅 I added boning to either side of the smocking to give more structure to the garment as I wanted to create a tunnel like shape around the head- referencing being surrounded by sound. #fdmbyme @fdmnorthumbria

Initially I machine embroidered ‘sound waves’ onto my jacket although after experimenting I found from a far this wasn’t as visible as I wanted. I tried different techniques while toiling for this but kept the shape the same as I liked how it sat. For the trouser I wanted to mirror the jacket silhouette to mimic a continuous wave therefore created an exaggerated balloon trouser for this. The toile for this is half realised with my final fabric and the other with plain calico to make sure my pattern pieces fitted correctly and to see how my final fabric would hold. #fdmbyme @fdmnorthumbria
