Health and Wellbeing App Concept for Students
.
Part of my honours projects, I came up with an app idea that helps students prioritise their health and wellbeing throughout their time at university. From research, students found it either difficult and scared to speak to someone or that they didn’t know how to get the help universities provide them. This is an app that contains all elements from the counselling and well-being parts of the Robert Gordon website! Basically giving students their very own counsellor app when they are in need of it at any time of the day.

For degree show, I am showing all elements of communication design to create design work that surrounds guiding and supporting communities. I have a passion for feminism and supporting mental health both in which I have explored through my projects. The main target audience in my work is younger generations and students. I enjoy documenting their lives and researching ways on how to help and learn about them through the use of design. I really enjoy photography out of the other elements of design as I find it interesting to have explore connections I have with others when photographing my documentation of them, creating realistic and genuine moments to showcase. My skills in illustration and graphic design are also inputted in my design, by creating concepts that would be beneficial to certain communities, my projects being a comic book and an app, both ideas for RGU.

I have taken an interest in designing projects for different communities mainly students and younger generations. I explored a range of medium sized projects for my degree using graphic design, illustration, and photography.
My dissertation topic was how the roles of women are influenced by their representation in media. This influenced a project in my work by documenting photography and research of girls aged 11-13 about them and their favourite hobbies. This was to show off their skills to make them feel empowered breaking issues of stereotypes that media have exposed them to.
I also created an app concept that helps the health and wellbeing department within RGU to give extra support to student’s health and more connection to their student advisors.
Lastly, I participated in a collaboration project on a fun comic book providing guidance for newcoming communication design students. Each collaborative member created a comic book using their own perspectives and style but had the same storyline. I used risograph for my comic outcome as it was a printing technique that I was highly fond of using due to its bold outcomes. My design style was influenced by cartoonists Bryan Lee O’ Malley and Maurice De Bevere.

Winter Photography Cont. 2/3💛

Continuing on from my last post. Summers favourite hobby is karate and is on her yellow stripe belt. I didn’t manage to get them in but she has won a few medals in her time from competitions! I thought it was a really good idea to take some shots of her in her uniform doing some poses as I feel this is something empowering for her and loves doing. She’s so talented and has big dreams with karate😊😊

Winter Photography 1/3

During the winter break I thought of going back to what I loved doing last year, some photography😁
This idea was for some experimentation/development for one of my projects that is about teaching young people about the issues with sexism and how to overcome these issues with confidence/being who you want to be etc! (Still in Development)
My niece was so excited to be apart of this and was so amazing to work with, she’s a wee star and model in the making, so proud! Had a lot of fun taking photographs and changing up the scenery. 📸🧡

Risoprint Workshop 1/2
Design inspired by song There’d Better Be a Mirrorball by Arctic Monkeys from their new album The Car🪩

This workshop was a lot of fun! Last time I created some risograph prints was about 4 years ago and I really wanted to experiment with it again, especially for my last year of uni projects! I did this for some research and experimentation but also connecting it to a lil mini project I have going on. I’ll definitely use this method again next semester, can’t wait to go back and make some more!
Big thank you to Peacocks Visual Studio for this cool experience😁😁

Beneficial Shock! Magazine Project✨
-
A mini project we got given to the start of our 4th year!
The brief was to create a visual graphic/illustration/photograph relating to the article ‘Persuasive Examination’ by Kieron Moore which talks about the Bechdel Test.
The Bechdel test is when a movie
(1) has at least 2 women in it
(2) who talk to each other
(3) about something other than a man.
I created this illustration to show that there is still underlying issues in movies that we ignore. People can assume passing tests results in a ‘feminist movie’ however women in film are still victims of being objectified, sexualised and insulted. Using Wonder Woman as an example, as a superhero herself that is usually taken over the role by men, can be seen as a feminist icon or hero however has underlying issues to her character and story. I thought that this project was great for everyone to learn and explore. I would love to continue creating more things around this topic in my projects to come!
