New interview in today with Nigerian artist Yewande Ambeke: "Painting became an outlet for me to express emotions I couldn’t voice out. It became a sort of visual journal where I could face these emotions. Gradually, it became a safe space where I could be honest with myself, and those closest to me, and the journey to find strength and healing began."

I created this piece to capture that quiet moment when one chooses to step into the unknown. I completed it just before giving birth to my son; a time when I was about to venture into uncharted territory, leaving the familiar behind. I was filled with both fear and anticipation, knowing I would soon be responsible for another life.
Today I celebrate myself, and the quiet beauty and strength that comes with being a mother. ❤️❤️
