When I was asked to teach graphic design to a group of teenagers from Makoko and Majidun, I was excited — but also super anxious.
Most of these kids had never used a computer before. Some didn’t know how to move a mouse or even open a file. And honestly? It was my first time teaching a class like this. I kept wondering, “How do I even begin?”
But over 12 Saturdays, something amazing happened. Through trial and error, patience, laughter, and a lot of encouragement, we figured it out — together.
Just a few Saturdays ago, at their exhibition, I stood there listening to them explain their work with confidence and joy, and my heart was full.
From curious minds to confident creatives — the growth has been unreal.
Testimony, Adekunle, Odunayo, Femi, Chioma, Deborah, Grace, Mesoma, Jennifer, Favour — I’m sooo proud of you all.
This program wasn’t just about learning new skills — it was about discovering new sides of themselves.
Big love to
@nnpclimited ,
@chevron and the amazing
@chessinslums team for making this possible. 🙌🏽
As for me, I’ve learned that design isn’t just about what you make, but what you help others discover in themselves.
I’m proud to be a designer who can help stars shine — even from the most unexpected places. 🌍✨
Yes, it’s possible to do great things from small places. 💛
