My new album, I’ll Be Waving As You Drive Away, is out June 6th on Mexican Summer! This final entry in the “Motor Trilogy” – the trio of albums recorded for Mexican Summer – is a story of hope, redemption, frustration, forgiveness, and how we are always in a constant state of leaving. This record is the culmination of everything I have ever been reaching for in my music. Today we reveal the song “Long Pond Lily” with a stellar (and extremely touching) music video directed by Matt Muir and starring me! It takes place in a haunted scaregrounds in Texas but I can’t tell you more because I don’t want to spoil too much – PLEASE GO WATCH THIS VIDEO! You can watch and stream at the link in my bio, and the LP is available for pre-order via my Bandcamp and the Mexican Summer webshop! Scott Hirsch recorded the album. His work with Hiss Golden Messenger, William Tyler & his own solo records has always inspired me. He’s truly a genius & a good friend. His production & playing on this album – the warmth, the soft tape echo, the huge bass – is why it’s my greatest album by a longshot. He made this my instrumental guitar prog-folk fantasy! Nathan Bieber with his incredible string arrangements, Nicole Lawrence and her dreamy pedal steel, and Jens Kuross on ambient piano are the crack team who played on this album! Jonathan Philips returned to paint the cover and I truly believe this is the best of the three. My jaw genuinely dropped the first time I saw the finished painting. It’s so vibrant, heartbreaking, slightly disturbing, and maybe a little funny? It’s everything. I love you, Jon. I am so glad you went on this journey with me. Finally, a huge thanks to Mexican Summer for all the care put into releasing my music, and in particular, to Joanie for project managing this one into existence. I hope y’all dig!!! More soon....

Aphex Twin’s ‘Avril 14th’ played by the music minister at First Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas back in 2015. Recently recovered an old phone of mine and found this video from the day before L’Hannah and I got married. We were 20 and 21, and the ceremony was at a tiny chapel in our hometown of Amarillo. When we needed a piece of music for L’Hannah to walk down the aisle to, we chose Avril 14th. I gave the church organist (a very kind man named David Lowe) the sheet music (he had obviously never heard of Aphex Twin before) and after he played through the song, he said “Wow, that is a beautiful piece of music.” It was really moving watching his reaction to the song for the first time after just sight reading the sheet music. A special memory for me that I wanted to share here with y’all!

Greetings from me and L’Hannah! I wanted to share one last update with y’all before the year ends. Life is moving so incredibly fast. L’Hannah is almost 5 months pregnant now?? It all feels surreal. Nothing but excitement over here! Next year is going to be truly life changing in so many ways. Becoming a parent, working on my next full length album, playing more shows, and a couple of major announcements I can’t share quite yet. In the meantime, thank y’all so much for all of the love and support shown to me and my music this year. I put out two records and played so many dang shows! It brings me such joy creating and sharing my music with y’all, and I can’t wait for what comes next. More soon, but now I need to finish writing some songs and put up some wallpaper with little animals on it! Talk to y’all later! Love, Hayden

YO!!!! Made Pitchfork’s 50 best albums of 2025 list! I am STOKED! After a pretty discouraging week with my injury, this was so nice to see. We worked so hard creating this album, and I’m so grateful to see people acknowledge this record. It was such a beautiful experience making this album with an incredible group of people.
