Perfect silhouette of a coal tit in the early hours of the morning 🌅 Spotted this little guy flitting around in some bushes, although it wasn’t that visible I kept taking photos just in case I might be able to salvage something later on, and voila… #coaltit #sonyalpha #sonyphotography #natgeowild #natgeoyourshot #wildlifephotography #birdsonearth #birds_captures #natgeoyourshotdiscoveries

The Taiwan barbet, or five-coloured bird (五色鳥) is found throughout the country in a range of habitats from local parks to the misty mountains. They are generally solitary birds but can be seen in small groups or pairs during the breeding season. We saw this barbet alone at the top of a tree very popular among flocks of smaller birds. Amongst the bustling activity of the smaller birds lower down in the tree I almost didn’t notice it till it started doing acrobatics to reach the berries 😂 #natgeoyourshot #sonyalpha #sonyphotography #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #natgeo #natgeowild #barbet #taiwanbarbet #五色鳥 #taiwan #taiwanwildlife #taiwantravel #birding #taiwanbird #bestbirdshots #feather_perfection #best_birds_of_ig #best_bird_shots #taiwantravel #traveltaiwan #taiwanbirding #natgeoyourshotdiscoveries

“Do you think they can see me??” I did think it was a beaver at first BUT it’s a muskrat and here’s 5 reasons why muskrats are cool😎: 1. They can hold their breath for up to 20 minutes underwater 2. They have a second set of lips that close behind their incisors, letting them gnaw plants while fully submerged without flooding their mouths! 3. They build houses with underwater entrances 4. By heavily grazing on plants like cattails, muskrats help shape wetland plant communities and help create open water pockets that benefit many bird species 🦢 5. They feature in Native American traditions and culture, with stories of them aiding the creation of the earth by bringing mud up from the primordial waters, and helping communities forecast weather events based on the timing and size of their lodges #wildlifephotography #canada #naturetok #muskrat naturephotography

The scarlet-rumped tanager, a common but always fascinating sight in the Caribbean lowlands of Central America. This little guy was flitting about in the trees so fast it was hard to get a decent shot so this is the best I could manage 😅 #scarletrumpedtanager #passerinistanager #costarica #costaricabirds #birding #wildlife #wildlifephotography

Happy Earth Day 🌎 Reminder that we only have one so: 🍎Be a responsible consumer and buy sustainability sourced goods: limit single use plastic, try to buy second hand (thrift your clothes they’re usually cooler anyway) and buy local produce 🐝 Take care of the wildlife close to home: don’t overuse pesticides, set up some bug hotels in your garden and let it grow wild, set up bird houses and plants that pollinators like 🚗 Carpool, use public transport, cycle and reduce energy use age at home 💻 Spread awareness about environmental issues, write to your MPs, sign petitions, demand the change you want to see #earthday2025

Butterfly drinking crocodile tears at Crocodile Bridge next to Tárcoles River 🐊 This behaviour, known as lachryphagy, is a form of nutrient supplementation . Sodium is often a scarce mineral in tropical environments, but insects like butterflies can get it from tears or sweat of other animals. This fascinating interaction highlights the complex and creative nutrient cycles of our earths ecosystems. These living fossils have endured the Tárcoles river being heavily polluted and even considered one of the most contaminated rivers in Central America. While some progress towards waste management has been made, more efforts are needed to sustain improvements to the rivers quality and ecosystem health. #wildlifephotography #sonyalpha #costarica🇨🇷 #costaricatraveler #animals #crocodile
