Major shakeup in Trudeau’s cabinet
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a significant reset to his cabinet with two-thirds of portfolios switching hands, seven rookie ministers coming in, and seven others leaving the front bench.
Among the most prominent ministers to be shuffled out of their job is Anita Anand, who now becomes president of the Treasury Board after serving as the national defence minister. Public safety minister Marco Mendicino, who has been under fire for months over his office’s handling of the transfer of notorious serial killer Paul Bernardo, confirmed his departure on Twitter Wednesday morning.
The shuffle comes as the government faces serious pressure on the cost of living, specifically housing prices and its handling of foreign interference.
Host Kelly Cutrara speaks with Dr. Laura Stephenson, professor of political science at Western University, about the shuffle.
