Amora recently turned 11 (so crazy to think!) I’m trying to reframe my thought process from “ugh gross” to “you know that’s really cool”.
Around 15, I got kicked out of my first serious band I played bass in cause “I wasn’t good” (they were not wrong!) and from there I just started messing with a day to remember songs in my basement. Soon that turned into talking to a friend about it, which turned into recording a guest spot for his band in audacity with a high school musical usb mic and annoying my family in the process. Then turned into doing the song live at croc rock in Allentown. From that moment I knew I didn’t want to put down a microphone. Ever.
All around that though, was a lot of doubt from peers, friends, loved ones, etc of “really, you?”. I grew up and (still am) a very high anxiety and shy kid. How could someone like me, sing in front of crowds? I was not talented at all. I was the least talented of my friends at the time (all amazing guitar players) but a lot of that came down to the feeling of breaking that wall, shedding any care about what people thought, and just being transparently myself and having fun.
The venues have certainly changed, there’s a lot more thought that goes into a show, I talk to myself all the time practicing what I’ll say when the first tuning break comes, and I also see vocal trainers! It’s all wild but I’m happy I’m here doing this.
If I listened to everyone around me I would not be here. Always listen to your heart.
