Vietnamese American Chef Jimmy Hoang (of Chef’s Special & Proudhound Coffee) is a chef based in Chicago by way of Cincinnati. Working in kitchens since 2018, his love of food was found by accident. Before kitchens, his time was spent skateboarding and taking photos, but through his love of the creativity and chaos in cooking, Ấm was born. Ấm’s creative menus come from Hoang’s reconnection with his Vietnamese roots. The Ấm pop-ups share flavors in the form of small plates and street food inspired by cultural ingredients and family memories through his own lens.

Hi, I’m Jimmy. I’m a chef based in Chicago.
I’ve been working in kitchens since 2018. I didn’t plan on cooking for a living. I kind of found food by accident, but I ended up falling in love with the creativity and chaos of it.
I grew up in Cincinnati before moving to Chicago. Before kitchens I spent most of my time skateboarding and taking photos. I think that same creative energy is something I try to bring into my food now.
I’m Vietnamese American, and cooking has become the way I reconnect with my roots. Food is the thing that makes me feel closest to my family and where I come from.
These pop-ups is my way of sharing those flavors through my own lens. Small plates and street food inspired by Vietnamese ingredients, memories, and the things I love to cook
