Deciding to sack off the star ratings in my reviews this year. They're so subjective they don't really mean anything to anyone else except me 🤷🏻‍♀️ And I would hate for people to miss out on a book they could potentially love, just because they saw that I, some internet rando, gave it a low star rating (not that I think I have any sway 😂) Let's see how I get on with this 🏵️ #Bookstagram #BookReviews #Bibliophile #BookstagramUK

Just in case anyone was confused about my stance. If you're not against oppression, genocide, racism, transphobia, homophobia and any other sort of bigotry, gtfo my page and unfollow me. If your feminism doesn't include trans people, or centres white women, gtfo my page and unfollow me. If you don't think abortion is healthcare and you like to shame people for their choices...well, you can guess where this is going...

I realised I never introduced myself when I first started this account, and I've been speaking with and getting to know so many lovely new people so thought I'd do a little post about me and a few of my favourite things ☺️ Also, just realised that I totally forgot to add Schitt's Creek in as one of my fave TV shows 🫣 I'd love to get to know you wonderful bunch more, so drop a random fact about yourself in the comments 👇🏼👇🏼 #MeetTheBookstagrammer #AboutMe #FavouriteThings #WhoAmI #BookstagramUK #Bibliophile #Bookstagram

Naming Nature by T A Barron Genre: Non-Fiction, Nature, Essays Pages: 256 Release Date: 19.05.26 Who I would recommend this book to: People who love nature, beautiful illustrations and linguistics. I loved this book. This is a book that you take your time with, either curled up on the sofa with a hot chocolate or sitting outside with an iced tea. It is not meant to be read in a single sitting but over several days or weeks so you can take your time with the descriptions, etymological background and illustrations. Barron’s love for flora and fauna is so obvious in this tribute to nature. This book would make the perfect gift for any nature lover, and also a great coffee table book to be casually leafed through. Thank you @andrewsmcmeel and @netgalley for providing a free advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Then Will the Sun Rise Alabaster by Benjanun Sriduangkaew is a 43 page Sci-Fi short story about lesbian nuns in space. I really enjoyed this short story and introduction to characters from this universe. I think there's about 10 stories in this series, but I'm not sure whether there will be crossover with other characters yet. I'm excited to read more from this series and this author! Have you read this, or any other books from this author? #SciFi #SapphicSpaceNuns #Bookstagram

Saw this trend going around so obviously I had to get involved. I’ve done books and characters from books, with some crossover. What books/characters would you fuck/marry/kill? Have I put your favourite book on my kill list, or are you baffled by the books that stole my heart? Consider yourself tagged 🫶 Fuck (Books): 💦 Decomposition Book by Sara van Os 💦 Fever House by Keith Rosson 💦 Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab 💦 Maeve Fly by CJ Leede 💦 The Crucifix Killer/Robert Hunter series by Chris Carter 💦 Little Eve by Catriona Ward Fuck (Characters) 🥵 Cardan Greenbriar from The Cruel Prince by Holly Black 🥵 Sabine from Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab 🥵 Kai & Thanatos from A Kingdom of Shadow and Ash by J. F. Johns ( why choose? Gimme both of them now) 🥵 Sila from Her Shadow So Dark and Lovely by Elsie Hawthorne 🥵 Declan from Hooked on a Demon by Isla Winter 🥵 Xiala from Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse Marry (Books) 💍 Faithbreaker/Fallen Gods series by Hannah Kaner (actually the whole series!) 💍 The River Has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar 💍 The Cruel Prince by Holly Black 💍 A Kingdom of Shadow and Ash/Kingdom of Gods series by J. Harrow Marry (Characters) 💗 Mal from A Kingdom of Shadow and Ash 💗 Ben from Hopeless Necromantic by Shiloh Briar 💗 Rocky from Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir 💗 Bartholomew from The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig (I am aware that the former three are a skeleton, an alien that looks like a rock, and a gargoyle, and I will not be taking any questions) 💗 Roiben from Tithe by Holly Black 💗 Ben Pyeon from Storm in a Teacup by Kat Paige Kill (Books) ⚰️ Hunger by Choi Jin-Young ⚰️ Piranesi by Susanna Clarke ⚰️ I’m a Fan by Sheena Patel ⚰️ Room by Emma Donoghue ⚰️ Holy Boy by Lee Heejoo ⚰️ Krampus by Brom Kill (Characters) 🔪 Superintendent Haddock from The Reformatory by Tananarive Due 🔪 Arren from Sunbringer by Hannah Kaner 🔪 Rasheed from A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini 🔪 Wallace from Slewfoot by Brom 🔪 Claire from Futility by Nuzo Onoh 🔪 The unnamed narrator from I’m a Fan by Sheena Patel

Bone of my Bone by Johanna van Veen Genre: Horror, Historical, LGBTQIA+ POV: First Person (Elsebeth), Third Person (Ursula & Otto) Pages: 350 Release Date: 26.05.26 Who I would recommend this book to: Fans of historical horror and lesbian nuns. Based on the synopsis, I knew I would enjoy this because it’s right up my alley. I didn’t expect to love it! This is easily my favourite book of April! I'm not a massive fan of re-reading books, but I will be buying this as soon as it comes out and reading it again! This is the first book I've read by van Veen, despite owning two of her other books, but I will be reading both of those ASAP. Thank you @poisonedpenpress and @netgalley for providing an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. #BoneOfMyBone #NetGalley #BookReview #Bookstagram #SapphicHorror

What did you read last week? Absolutely loved The Women of Wild Hill, it was just what I needed to read this weekend! I also really loved Hopeless Necromantic and Neurdivergent Moments - both were bloody hilarious but for different reasons. Human-Shaped Fiends is extreme horror and weird as hell! I'm enjoying it but I would not recommend this book to people who have never read, or don't enjoy, splatterpunk/extreme horror. I feel like Chain-Gang All Stars is going to be an enjoyable read, and I have high hopes for it. I'll continue with Shades of Forever for the time being, but I AM pretty bloody confused about some of the book, so we'll see how I get on. I couldn't get past 70% in House of Wolves because of the stupidly irrational thing that is the ick. I cannot stand it when people call their partners cutesy nicknames like 'babe', 'baby', 'bae', 'boo', 'bubba', etc. It makes me unwell. And yes, I am fully aware that this is 100% a me problem but it's not my fault icks make no sense! I’m a bit sad that I wasn’t vibing with My Monsters Ain’t Like Yours because it sounded right up my street! Gerry Cinnamon popped up on a shuffle playlist and I forgot how much I loved his songs lol. #WhatiReadLastWeek #ReadingLog #ReadingJournal #Bookstagram #BookstagramUK

The Reformatory by Tananarive Due Genre: Horror, Historical POV: Third person, dual POV Pages: 601 Source: Kobo Plus Who would I recommend this book to: People who enjoy tense and emotional stories of injustice set against a supernatural backdrop. This book is phenomenal, and will live rent-free in my head until the day I die. I can’t get over how scary it was. I was terrified for these boys; my entire body was so tense reading this. Can’t wait to read Due’s other books! Have you read this? If so, what did you think? If not, would you read it?

What's your favourite sprayed edge? Just having a little reorganisation of the bookshelf 😍 I'm a sucker for a beautiful book! Most of these are from @thebrokennbinding , and a few were second hand from various sites. My husband, who doesn't even like reading (😱) loves looking at these, that's how gorgeous they are lol.

What did you read last week? I managed to smash out a load of reading as I was on holiday. I was travelling home for about 8 hours, by myself, so I had A LOT of time to read! I was travelling on a bus to the airport for 2 and half hours and I managed to read all of Hard Luck Jenny, and then started Bone of my Bone once I got to the airport. Absolutely loved Bone of my Bone. It was exactly what I was hoping for, it's my favourite book of April! I enjoyed Nowhere Burning! I actually didn’t know what to expect because I preordered it without even reading the blurb. This is something I do often with authors whose work I have previously loved 🫣😂 Natives and Chinese and Any Other Asian were both fantastic reads, really insightful and informative. Highly recommend both!

What reading challenge(s) are you doing this year? Do we have any crossovers? I meant to post this last month, completely forgot that I had made it tbh lol Q1 Updates for: Trans Right Readathon Decolonise Your Shelf Books in the Freezer The Diverse Baseline Feral & Hysterical 101 Books to Read before You’re Murdered These aren’t all of the reading challenges that I participate in, so the last two slides are an overview of all of my other challenges. Yes, I know that I participate in a lot of challenges haha. A lot of them are open ended ones, so I don’t feel pressured to read loads of books. I also use the same book across challenges, for example, The Reformatory was used for 4 challenge prompts. But I don’t use the same book for multiple prompts within the SAME challenge. Are there any challenges I’ve posted about in my overview slides that you’d like to see a fuller update for in my Q2 progress update?
