“Coalescence: Bringing Fashion Archives into the Digital Space” is a collaborative initiative that brings together d_archive, Alu Studios, and Centraal Museum Utrecht. Supported by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie,“Coalescence” explores new methods for preserving and presenting fashion heritage through digitization. The project centers on the digitization of historical Asian garments and textiles that played a pivotal role in the development of European centered global economies. They embody complex histories of trade, adaptation, and power relations, including colonial expansion through coercive diplomacy, manipulation of state leaders, and the violent appropriation of land, labor, and production systems for goods such as silk, cotton, and other woven textiles. Each garment bears witness to cultural encounters, processes of appropriation, and transformation. d_archive and Alu Studios are collaborating to develop a hybrid workflow that expands the possibilities of digitization, creating a state-of-the-art process that preserves both traces of wear and the structural logic of construction, and supports more in-depth forms of research, conservation, and public engagement. 👇 🇬🇧 In de tentoonstelling Rococo Reboot onderzoekt het videowerk Gardens I Must Flee From You door @alu__studios de verschuiving van de wetenschappelijke, rationele idealen van de Renaissance en Verlichting naar het emotionele mysticisme van de Romantiek. Die terugkerendereactie weerspiegelt zich in literatuur, poëzie, landschapsontwerp en mode.   Aan het einde van de 18de eeuw wordt natuur niet langer beheerst, maar ervaren als iets subliems en bezielends. De sierlijke Franse hofstijl maakt plaats voor een ingetogen Engelse stijl, de voorloper van het moderne herenpak.   Die transitie wordt zichtbaar via 3D-gescande kledingstukken uit de collectie van @modemuseum_hasselt . Digitale reconstructies maken niet alleen behoud mogelijk, maar openen ook nieuwe manieren om historische verhalen te vertellen. In de film treden de modellen in dialoog met historische landschappen en literaire citaten, waardoor de verschuiving op een multidimensionale manier wordt weergegeven.   De beelden in deze post tonen details van de texturen uit de 3D-modellen in het videowerk dat in de expo wordt tentoongesteld. —— In the exhibition Rococo Reboot, the video workGardens I Must Flee From You by Alu Studios explores the shift from the scientific, rational ideals of the Renaissance and Enlightenment to the emotional mysticism of Romanticism. This recurring response is reflected in literature, poetry, landscape design, and fashion.   By the end of the 18th century, nature is no longer controlled, but experienced as something sublime and inspirational. The ornate French court style gives way to an understated English style, the forerunner of the modern men’s suit.   That transition is made visible through 3D-scanned garments from the collection of @modemuseum_hasselt Digital reconstructions not only enable preservation, but also open up new ways of telling historical stories. This project looks at how the male torso functioned as the base shape, which gets imitated and extremefied by the harness, creating a new object of power, dominance and security.
