ALS United advocates from across the country are in Washington, D.C. this week for ALS Awareness Month, bringing local voices directly to Capitol Hill. Today, ALS United member organizations are on Capitol Hill meeting with members of Congress and their staff to advocate for people living with ALS and their families. Our message is clear: ALS requires urgency. That means advancing research, protecting access to care, supporting expanded access, and investing in the federal programs that help move the ALS field forward. Supporters can help amplify this work from home by sending a message to Congress through ALS United’s advocacy action alerts page: /advocacy-action-alerts.

This May, ALS United is kicking off ALS Awareness Month right where the world is watching, Times Square. But awareness alone isn't enough. We need action. Congress must pass the ACT for ALS Reauthorization Act before it expires on September 30th. Here's what's at stake — and some of what we stand to lose: The NIH Expanded Access Program has already given people living with ALS access to investigational treatments they otherwise never could have received. The ALS research infrastructure that has created data sharing, including the data gathered from the ALL ALS Consortium, which has enrolled 1,200+ participants in the largest open natural history study of ALS ever conducted — building a foundation for every breakthrough that comes next. This is momentum. Real, hard-won, life-changing momentum. Ask Congress to pass this bill today: /campaign-page?cid=D9ywLshuaKgGZbKAWUKOI

What a powerful way to kick off May! We’re grateful to both the Town of Cary and Governor Josh Stein for recognizing May as ALS Awareness Month in North Carolina. These proclamations shine an important light on the individuals and families impacted by ALS—and help drive awareness, advocacy, and support across our communities. Let’s keep the momentum going—by educating, supporting, and standing alongside those affected as we work toward a cure.

A powerful moment for our community. Yesterday, Asheville officially recognizes May as ALS Awareness Month received by board member Margaret Black and the doctor our UNC Pardee Clinic Dr. Machemehl. This visibility matters—and it brings us one step closer to change.
