From tiny seeds to beautiful blooms 🌸✨
Watching our Shatila 2 students’ planting project come to life has been such a joy. In a place where green spaces are rare, seeing these little plants grow brings so much life, color, and hope.
A little care, a little patience, and beautiful things bloom.
Did you know the first ever cricket match outside the UK was played in Aleppo, Syria in 1676? 🏏
This weekend, our students took the field as the first ever Syrian cricket team, reclaiming that legacy alongside teams from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, and the UK, 350 years later.
And our players won every single tournament.
And none of it would’ve looked the way it did without four incredible clubs who donated kit to our players, thank you from the bottom of our hearts:
Spencer CC — @spencercricket
North London CC — @northlondoncricket
Ploughmans CC — @ploughmanscricket
Lord’s Travellers CC
Your generosity means more children get to play.
This is just the beginning for Alsama. 💪

We are so proud of Abed Alsalam and Aisha. They just finished a two-month hospitality training program with IECD, followed by a full month of practical internship experience.
They now hold certificates recognized by the Ministry of Labour, UNHCR, and UNICEF. This is a huge step toward them finding work, supporting their families, and building their own futures.
Seeing our students take charge of their lives at such a young age is what the Alsama Project is all about.
Thank you to IECD, UNHCR, and UNICEF for providing these opportunities and recognizing the talent within the refugee community.
Introducing the top finalists in the Overcoming Adversity category of the Global Schools Prize 2026.
From refugee-led accelerated learning models to schools sustaining education through conflict, funding cuts, and extreme instability, these schools are redefining what is possible when education systems are pushed to their limits.
Meet the finalists:
🇱🇧 Alsama Project: Delivers a radical accelerated curriculum that takes students from illiteracy to university readiness in six years, with WASC-accredited centres providing internationally recognised learning pathways for refugee students.
🇾🇪 Bassmati School: Sustains education through conflict through extended learning time, teacher training systems, and robust safety infrastructure, maintaining 98% attendance during peak airstrikes.
🇰🇪 Light Academy: Transforms crisis into innovation through its LIFE framework, blending curriculum, social-emotional learning, and community engagement to improve attainment and attendance across refugee education settings.
🇺🇸 North East Carolina Preparatory School: Builds a community-rooted model of rural resilience through agricultural STEM learning, inclusive transport systems, and alternative education pathways for vulnerable learners.
🇦🇫 Right to Learn: Delivers large-scale digital education for Afghan girls across multiple countries, combining daily instruction, mentorship, and internationally recognised certification pathways.

When traditional education systems fall short, alternative pathways can make all the difference.
Liberty Adam, Communications and External Relations Officer at Alsama project, explains how the G12++ exam offered by Alsama enables refugee and displaced children to prove themselves academically.
As a curriculum-agnostic exam, it gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, regardless of the educational system they come from, opening doors to higher education and future opportunities.

This Labor Day, we spoke to Richard Verity, Chief Development Officer at Alsama Project @alsamaproject , about the communities excluded from the #labor market—and how we can begin to close that gap.
As he explains, refugee and displaced children are often excluded from formal education, which creates cycles of #poverty.
However, it is precisely because they’ve been denied education that these children value it so deeply.
In that light, Alsama is working to break this cycle of exclusion by equipping refugee and displaced children with the #education they’ve been denied. Through a holistic approach, students learn everything from Arabic and art to English and employability skills.

We are so excited to announce that we have opened our fifth education centre in Homs, Syria.
Educating 220 students, this fully-fledged, Alsama-run centre marks our first step into Syria - supporting returnee students.
Today, we hosted our opening party - filled with excited students eager to learn, staff dedicated to this generation of learners, and lots (and lots) of hope for the future.
Together - we can build a more peaceful region through providing a world-class education where it is needed most.
“Our planet is full of answers and wonders, and curiosity, even a simple question is the key to unlocking them.” — Olaa
This video was created by our Year 4 student, Olaa, who asked our staff and students one simple but powerful question:
If the whole world was listening, what would you say?
Now it’s your turn. What’s your message?
“I felt so hopeful. Honestly, the night before, I couldn’t sleep like a student on their first day of school. Even though we reopened before the students returned, I truly felt how strong and capable we are of continuing despite everything.” Ms. Souad
After two months of closure, our two centers in Bourj Al Barajneh have finally reopened their doors.
While learning has continued online, we cannot wait to welcome back our students and hear their voices fill our centers again.
We are holding on to hope for better days ahead, in Lebanon and around the world.

While the world around her was in chaos, Jana found a different world to live in.
“Everyone around me was repeating the same words about the war. My books were my only escape; they helped me manage my emotions and organize my thoughts.”
Jana, Year 3 student
In just one month, Jana finished all seven parts of the Kingdom of Rhetoric series. These stories are about courage and patience, and Jana says she found exactly what she was missing within their pages.
Our librarian, Fatima, presented Jana with a special award today to celebrate this achievement.
“Jana was in the library every single day to return a book and take another. It was amazing to see her focus so deeply despite everything happening outside. She is a role model for all of us.”
Fatima, Year 6 student
We are constantly inspired by how our students find the strength they need in books, even in the hardest times.
The doors to our centers in bourj al barajneh may be closed, but the learning hasn’t stopped for a single moment.
Even after the bombings and the displacement of our students and staff, our community is showing that education has no borders. We’re so proud to see 90% attendance. Our students are fighting to keep learning, and our teachers are refusing to let them down.
Meet Shahed. She had to return to Syria due to the war, but she hasn’t let that stop her. She joins her classes online every day, holding onto her dreams despite everything.
To our students, teachers, and staff: Your strength and commitment inspire us every day. Keep going.
How we’re helping: We are providing mobile credit to our displaced students and their families to ensure they stay connected and keep learning.

From Shatila to the global stage.
Representing girls from the camps, Tasneem and Roaa spoke in front of 60 UNICEF attendees at the Mövenpick Hotel, including the Deputy Representative.
Using a video they created, they made sure their voices were heard. Now, they are helping UNICEF develop and implement a new 6-year strategy.
This is part of the Makani project, in partnership with Beit Atfal Al-Sumoud.
