With the rest of the Bac crew (now TCK) we always consider #throwup as one of the true definition of #graffitiwriting .For us throw ups like tag and piece (not character) define your level as a #graffitiwriter . Some writer are only able to do a good throw ups, but it doesn’t mean they’re less talented, considering writers good on technique or character aren’t able to do a nice throw ups. This particular kind of #graffiti got a deep impact on #graffitihistory . They are the link between different period of time from tag to big tag, from straight big letters to bubble style who are in my opinion the first elaborate piece, especially the one Phase2, Cliff or Comet, did on the #nysubway.
I would also mention this generation of throw up master from the late #80s to the mid #90s . People like @alankets@ja.xtc@giznyc1@ca1tsu@mrcopetwo@cashrfc to name a few, or Sign and @johnperello in Paris.. No matter how hard or gangsta you can play on a mic, there will always be a mother behind every #rapper. When you meet one of here you just realize how deep she involve in the fondation of an artist. I meet Voletta Wallace In New York years ago and had a short conversation with here. She hug me and all I can feel was the love she had for other people. Her son was know as #thenotoriousbig but she was the Giant human being behind. Rest In Peace Voletta Wallace and condoléance to his family ♥️
It is with a great sadness that I learned the passing of Joey TDS. Harlem and Uptown legend Joey had a big heart. I met him trough acquaintances, did his interview for a magazine and we spend some time together in his Harlem kingdom with good memories like : a graffiti I did in the hall of fame (which he convinced me to do), a night spend in this legendary place where he discussed the idea of doing a festival with Frosty Freeze and Wane, this Fridge Magazine festival on a roof top that we spend together and which ended with a memorable concert of MOP, but also many conversations where it was about the real history of Hip Hop, not the one we read in books but which is transmitted in the street where Joey was a legend and will remain so. Here are some photo of his graffiti that he shared with me during this interview, and that he often created with other writers for whom he also provided a form of protection.
