Spring got us feeling sprunggg. Cutting the rug in our funkiest formal attire, re-acquainting our bodies to rock climbing and desert running, and getting absolutely pickled in pickle ball. After a lovely trip to the Lower 48 with tons of new and old friends, we’re gearing up to move into our new home 🏠 …! … which we somehow found time to buy amidst all these spring hijinks.

Gave the ole brain a caffeine and social media detox for the last month or so, and man did it help morale! I started working as a mental health clinician at a juvenile detention center almost a year ago and it’s been an adjustment to my lifestyle to say the least. I’m still gently tip toeing the work life balance tight rope. I’m still figuring out when to say no to things (after or during work). With this adjustment has come a new fulfillment and sense of meaning and purpose that I wouldn’t trade for anything. I have had life changing moments working with the youth at that facility that have cracked me open, inspired me, and forced me to reckon with the brightest and darkest sides of humanity. I feel stimulated, challenged, and engaged in my work in a way that I’ve yet to experience in my time on this big spinning rock. I feel so blessed to have a partner to come home to who will play games with me quietly while I decompress after a long day, who will encourage me to play guitar and sing along with me while he cooks dinner, who begrudgingly lets me spoon both him and dex in bed at night, who makes me chortle everyday with his antics, and who still rouses me to exercise and romp around town til 2am dawning a wig when I have the energy to do so. So grateful for my friends near and far who’ve made time for me when I have had the energy to socialize, dance, share meals, go out to the movies, Facetime, play games, or sweat it out in yoga. Having @moonstruck13c come see me in Alaska and dance the night away with me for a long weekend was definitely a highlight of the winter. Working on some big life leaps right now and excited for all the challenges to come. 💕 🏠 💃🏻

New year, very similar shenanigans. Cold weather reflections: laughter boosts circulation and Velcro dogs make great body heaters.

Lessons from Mexico: Timeshares are indeed, a scam. HOWEVER, you can get a cheap boat ride to camp on an island if you listen to 7 people explain them as if they’re not. A cold cup of shrimp juice and raw fish when you’re bonking might make you feel substantially worse. The cars with loud speakers yelling at 8am are simply offering carpet cleaning services and the like. If you google “how to catch a turkey vulture with an egg,” you will be advised that this is illegal. There is water hiding deep in the desert, it just may not be the advertised waterFALL you imagined. Forgetting sunscreen before kayaking in the hot hot sun may lead to a degree of sun poisoning that brings you to new spiritual heights and proximity to the porcelain gods. And lastly, 10 days of sunshine running and beach lounging with your sweetie in the dead of pre solstice winter, is very good for the soul.

My bru @jimuvo has visited me quite a few times in AK, but never have I had the privilege of showing him around when it’s been this nice out. We squeezed each day he was here dry. We swam, we climbed mountains, ran ridges, Dave and Bustered, we yurted, bull kelp nunchucked, launched into the sky in a red rocket, we were eagles, watched cars launch off a cliff, shared tasty meals, and we even did our first pull tab. Mostly, we laughed, pondered the meaning of life, and crafted bits. It was a most special visit with a most special friend. 🥹
