It was a little tough for me to post the first summer photo, as part of me is still sad to see the winter leave. But... I will get over it, because how much fun is shredding bikes with your friends?!
In a place where there is more ‘tyvek’ than actual siding on houses, where you can sled from your backyard into a perfect pow stash, where you have the best bike trails nobody has ever heard about, @ginnardwhite and @alpine_forestry have tucked themselves neatly into what many consider a dream life in remote British Columbia.
For their jobs as a heavy duty mechanic and an aspiring ski guide - both working at different backcountry lodges, they try to maximize their time off.
It’s 8PM on a Friday – after over a week of tail-guiding, 10 days of lodge based ‘wrenching’, and a season’s worth of managing schedules to line up days off - Ginny, Jordan, and their crew head out into a zone with an endless valley of mini-couloirs, heli-runs and north facing cold snow……....

I often daydream about what it might have been like to be born 100 years earlier. And if we’re doing that, what if we could take modern equipment back in time with us?! I’m not sure our sleds would run on old time gasoline, but man, the rocker/camber profile of my snowboard would sure hit hard.
Then I look up from my daydream and camp chores and see Dan. What the… 🌀 where are we again?
What year is it? This IS a prospectors camp…

Cursing the very snow everyone wished for this winter, forgotten by most now that it is spring. Some of the most relentless trail breaking to date, accompanied by relentless sunshine, and a relentlessly good time. long days, long runs, and deep turns. The flowing creeks make morning coffee a breeze, and the alarm flows perfectly into bird song. I love the perpetual clash of seasons this time of year. Reggae, cans, and sunburn assessment back at the sleds. Days on end. I could do this forever I think.

A guy couldn’t ask for a better crew, weather, or conditions to wander through the high country with.
Cold steeps, sunny cruisers, and wicked snack spots.

The end of March. Snowboarding season has arrived 🙏🏄♂️🙏. 2 months of living Nostalgia in the present. The alpine is as fat as we could ever wish for, and I hope we can do her justice. Wet slides, mud, and glory 🫡 🌞🌊
To quote @w_ginther , “Is a Tube with no beginning and no end infinite?” How profound.
And with that, we continue the quest for the eternal tube ride. A deadly crew, unwilling to accept the “worst winter” narrative being pushed by big-pessimism quests on. Pushing deep into the whatever’s, a couple wrong turns on my part, some engaging T-bog trail breaking, higher and higher, up the creek, past the giant cedars, one ridge gives way to another break 🌊🌊🌊. We’ve arrived. Time to set up, batten the hatches, get the cast iron hot and see what the storm provides. A foot of fresh baby.
As each person tips over the edge into the tubular abyss, the continuity is affirmed by loud giggles and a Kool-aid man “ooohhhhh yeaaaahhh!!” Echoing through the valley. It goes 🏄♂️🏄♂️🏄♂️. Another successful tube safari in the books.
