Jenson Button was a PR agent’s dream. Looked like a trustfund Snowboarding model, drove like a “spoon through truffle”. Nicknamed The Tyre Whisperer, he was exceptional at driving in a way that kept tyres in good condition for longer.
At the end of the 2008 season - impacted by the financial crash - Button’s current team Honda announced they would be pulling out of F1, closing down the racing team. Facing collapse, team principal Ross Brawn convinced Honda to let him and some investors buy the team for £1, personally taking on all the risk and debt in a Hail Mary attempt to save the team. What followed was the greatest underdog story in motorsport…
Without even a livery or proper sponsorship, they cobbled together a car that was unexpectedly fast. Incredibly fast - wiping the floor with the opposition for the first half of the season.
This didn’t last though, as the rest of the field did everything they could - including multiple complaints about design nuances in the Brawn car - to claw back points against a team that had no right to be at the top. From then on the rest of the season involved ever-poorer race results, Button trying to salvage enough points to get him over the line.
Astonishingly, he managed it, becoming the first team since Mercedes to win a debut season.
The greatest underdog story in motorsport history.

Not content with making just athlete wear, in the early 90s Umbro decided to move into making the iconic Manager Trench Coat, an iconic clothing choice on match day for football managers all over Europe.
This is the sporty version of the coat, designed to provide more warmth on those colder days.
Although not confirmed, it’s widely believed these were made just for managers, and probably not available to the general public.
