I’ve been selling my cards and bookmarks at autumn markets the past weekends and several persons asked how I make my images. (Thank you, by the way!) So I though I’d show you the process for these Norrland landscapes. I always start with paper. Here you can see that I often get ideas from random bits of scrap paper that I’ve collected: a color, a texture reminds me of a mood, a natural material, a building, etc. I also paint a lot of my own collage papers. Then I cut the shapes I need. When I’m making an image that is intended to be printed later, I often scan paper elements separately and assemble them digitally so I can easily adjust the layout, colors and transparency. But I’ll show you this part in the next video!

I was organizing my collage papers the other day and found a random tree trunk shape I had cut from the wrapper of a @maliniratan soap bar.
I’ve been wanting to practice collaging trees and test using random bits of paper with weird shapes for foliage so this was the perfect occasion. I was heavily inspired by the queen of landscape collages @kristicolbertstudio whose trees I have long admired.
The plan was just to make a quick tree sketch but of course I got caught up and started putting together a background too. Six hours later I ended up with this view from my studio window.
It had been a long time since I made a 100% paper collage landscape without any digital work. So much fun!

Hours in Seconds. The making of Wild Strawberries and Camomille, painted paper collage, ca. 14x19 cm.

Many bits of painted paper turning into wild strawberries on my collage desk this week. They are starting to pop here and there in my garden, too, though the fruits will not be ready until July. I’m letting them grow and spread as borders for my vegetable beds or under higher crops like raspberries or Jerusalem artichokes.

BTS handmade forget-me-nots collage for a lovely custom order.
I use a glue stick for the main shapes but sometimes I find it easier to stick the tiny details using matte medium like this.

Week 3 for @thenewbotanica
The beautiful reference photo from @thequietbotanist spoke to me a little extra this week! The lab coat reminded me of my days working as an experimental physicist, with no time or energy to make art but very much distracted by creative dreams waiting to bloom. 🌼

Happy first day of spring! I’m doing some spring cleaning in my studio and dug up these buntings I made ages ago from the pages of an old Sweden atlas.
I will be listing them on my etsy soon. DM me if you are interested in buying one.
Daffodils are always fun to make but working on the glass was definitely my favorite part. Painted paper collage inspired by the reference photo for week 1 at @thenewbotanica
