As the snow and ice receded on Lake Michigan I found myself staring at these wonderful sculptures that nature created. This is another trichromatic exposure, with an unintended light leak that I think made it all the better.

While I was mostly focused on making long-exposure photos at @tusentakkfoundation I also had time and access to equipment that allowed to experiment with other techniques, including a monochrome Leica camera.
Here is a long trichromatic exposure of Lake Michigan from one of those photo shoots. This is a photo technique that previously I only tried making using a B&W medium format film so it was nice to give it a digital try.

What if the Rip Van Winkle bridge was built over the Hudson River when Thomas Cole and Frederic Edwin Church lived across from each other? Here is a poem about that:
Across the River, a Pot of Tea
The bridge had made it easy now, no ferryman, no wait, just iron span and morning light above the river’s freight.
Church motored over from Olana, high upon his hill, to Catskill, where the elder Cole had shaped his master’s will.
They settled in with steaming cups and let the silence breathe, the Hudson far below them, wound in its autumnal wreath. “You taught me light," said Frederick Church, "the way it breaks on stone, the way a storm can consecrate a mountain standing lone.”
Cole smiled and stirred his tea and looked out toward the Catskills’ rim,
the very peaks he’d painted young, still calling out to him. “I taught you nothing you weren't born already knowing, Fred.
I only showed you where to look. The seeing's in your head.”
Church laughed and pulled a sketch out from the lining of his coat, Cotopaxi, roiling fire, a volcano's sulfured throat.
“I’ve gone a little farther than the Catskills, I'm afraid.” “You've gone a little farther than the world,” the master said.
They talked of Turner, talked of God, of whether they were one, of how a canvas holds its breath beneath a setting sun,
of how the wilderness they loved was shrinking year by year, and whether beauty, rendered true, could make indifferent men feel fear.
The afternoon grew amber then, the river caught the glow, that golden Hudson hour they had each fought so hard to show, and both men stopped their talking and just watched it burn and fade, two painters humbled equally by what the light had made.
Church rose to go. The bridge awaited, silver in the dusk. Cole walked him to the motorcar through autumn's smell of musk. “Come back in spring,” Cole called to him across the cooling air.
Church waved without a backward look. He knew the way from there.
The cormorants tree, Catskill. Those fellows are quite restless before finding a roosting spot for the night. And then again, every night.

Honoring Earth and celebrating her resilience on this day through my continued exploration of photographing trees - in this case my documentation of the same beautiful tree over a long period of time.
I call this Frederic Church's Tree, which is standing tall, overlooking the Hudson River right at his Olana home across the river from me.

Fisherman doing his best in the Esopus Creek, I try to do my best too. The fish don't care. Current state of mind...

Yesterday, attempting to long-expose some last rays of sun washing through the clouds, changing filters every few minutes and in between reading Sally Mann’s Art Work book, identifying with her early struggles.
The rain came and left, then some tourists arrived and I made this photo. Putting the camera on a tripod allows me to look around and see what else is happening which is often more interesting than what the main camera is pointing at.
Thinking about a world torn apart yet so full of love.

Found a great spot to photograph in the Hudson Valley: a combination of a slight elevation, train tracks, the magnificent river and to top it all - a power plant!!
Here are some full shots as well as details. Last photo is a mix of train exposure with my trichromatic technique but I think it's a bit too much in this case.

Sometimes when @ohthattimdavis is not around, and I see a @ohthattimdavis kind of photo, I have to make a @ohthattimdavis photo.
