Chris Clarke (@chrisea100 ) on the magical mystery tour… A wave that throws up intense, near perfect barrels one moment, then warped, stepped out sections the next. We affectionately used to refer to her as ā€œWrong’unsā€ 🄓

John McCarthy, February surf check. He’s somehow always been in the right place at the right time, an innate talent that only the most capable surfers have. From memory his nose was a bit ā„ļøā£ ⁣ #JohnMcCarthy #Lahinch #AgfaScala #Scala #filmisnotdead #Canon1VHS #Canon1V

I always think of Hugo ( @hugleyboogley ) as one of Ireland’s most fluid and stylish surfers. Humble and softly spoken, over the last decade he’s become an incredible baker too.⁣ ⁣ If you happen to find yourself in County Clare, make sure to drop into @hugos_lahinch for his famous sourdough, pastries and much more. ⁣ ⁣ #hugoslahinch #baker #bakery #countyclare #hughgalloway

Bindy (@belindabaggs ) is one of the most stylish surfers I’ve been lucky enough to work with. Wonderful human out of the water too. Memories of a fun left hand pointbreak to ourselves, lit by the day’s dying embers ✨After 11pm, circa 60 degrees north.

Lunar eclipse this evening. Anyone know when the next one visible from the UK will be? Last time I viewed, with clear skies, was ten years ago…⁣ ⁣ Missed totality and the stunning colour earlier due to a hefty bank of cloud on the eastern horizon. By the time the moon did appear, the ambient light was fading fast, so the picture I’d envisaged (residual blue sky contrasting with red of moon) didn’t happen. ⁣ ⁣ Denied again by the good ol’ UK weather 🤣. ⁣ ⁣ Did however get the partial eclipse through to the full moon reveal, just before more cloud piled in and it was gone. ⁣ ⁣ I often wish when it comes to anything celestial that I lived in Southern California or Arizona, or ideally the Atacama desert(!), for those consistently clear skies. We are so hampered here in this damp NW corner of the Atlantic. Similar thing with surf photography, the clear waters and incredible light of the tropics make photography infinitely easier. ⁣ ⁣ Still, I suppose when it does all come together for us here it’s all the more special. ✨

Water’s brown, but on those rare occasions when swell, wind and tide align with a little sun… 🤌✨

Five years ago last night (or maybe a couple of nights ago). No better way to see the recently discovered Comet Neowise. Luckily viewing conditions were perfect as it won’t be visible again from earth for another 7000 years šŸ’«ā˜„ļø

Waking to the sound of rumblings in the gravel pit: Bruce Irons enjoying France’s finest. I vaguely remember a conversation he and Mick Fanning had in front of me, can’t remember which of them had snapped their board, but they were likening the day’s hollowness and power to mini Pipeline.
