Our dark comedy about a writer returning home to Ireland to complete his long overdue second novel, only to be plagued by a rogues gallery of local villagers, has been an exciting journey! Today is a sad day. After 13 and a half years, we said goodbye to Sammie. She came into our lives at the exact right time, as a puppy, demanding Ally take her home, just weeks after my dad passed away, right when we needed that extra pinch of love in our lives. Through her entire life, she was the most unique (and spoiled I’m sure!) dog we’d ever had. But she had the most beautiful personality. No one who ever met her didn’t immediately become her best friend. And she was there with us through all manner of ups and downs and brought love into the room whenever she sauntered in. A few years ago, it became clear she wasn’t able to do as much as she could when she was younger, but we continued as adventurous a life we could for her, and she was never left wanting. Three years ago, when cancer took her eye, and she started having episodes, we knew eventually this extremely tough day would come, but all the while, even as she lost her hearing and eyesight, she continued to be the happiest little girl you could ever imagine, never failing to explode into excitement when we showed up. All dogs are the best dogs, but somehow, she was the most perfect dog for our lives and she leaves behind a Sammie-shaped hole that we will fill with the abundant happy memories she gave us. Love you, little girl ❤️
My little girl has gone off to doggy heaven. She’s given me over 13 years of love, care and joy. I don’t have the adequate words to express how much she meant. I just hope she loved me half as much as I loved her.
