@allyhwallace is an artist I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with in her studio over the past few years and it’s an honor to showcase her work at @herron__house .
This painting is one of two 5 x 10 foot panoramas — a study of light and ritual born from daily observation during the pandemic with a little one at home. Each morning she pulled back her son’s bedroom curtains and watched the sunlight spill in.
Formally trained in photography, Ally reflects that “his room felt like a camera at moments— the curtain a lens, opening and closing as warm light poured in and bounced off the mirrored closet door.”
In her practice, she compresses light, memory, and perception into layered surfaces that feel like quiet visual records of lived experience. Thin veils of acrylic capture the rhythm of fabric, the movement of figures and the simple yet powerful act of beginning again.
