Creative Update
The past year was spent consciously watching things grow, change, die, and transform. I wanted to really watch the seasons and drink things in.
I spent time picking things up, looking at them and putting them down, making and breaking, and fixing, and grinding and polishing
But above all was learning, so much learning.
So here’s some of those things, more to come soon 💜

(🌺) Spring Bud Vase 1
Laminated Glass, Cold Worked
2” x 2”x 6.5”
.
As I think about moving into new seasons, three words usually present themselves; for Spring they are Care, Bud, Grow. These serve as themes I explore in my relationships, work, and art practice.
This vase is the first in a series of bud vases to celebrate the beauty bursting forth as we enjoy Spring.

When that light hits just right 😌
It’s a little test piece that needs a nice window to perch in.

Here’s a quick tour of the v1 machine!
My main goals:
1. 12” lap at a minimum
2. Speed controlled motor
3. Quiet operation
4. Minimized splash out
5. Cost under $1000 so I can buy more diamond laps from @hisglassworks
One of the best parts of building your own tools is being able to service them and purchase replacement parts without relying on some special manufactured part.
I bought all of the parts for this on Amazon (except hardware) and assembled it over a cumulative weekend.
As with most art or craft, a big barrier to entry is the cost of effective tools; so build your own!

Project Update!
After a couple of years working with an 8 inch flat lap, I decided it was time to upgrade!
I quickly realized there wasn’t anything on the market that would meet my requirements without breaking the bank.
I’m really proud of the lap machine I’ve built! It’s quiet with plenty of power and able to be expanded for 16 or 18 inch wheels.
Some specs:
-12” lapidary wheel
-3/4 HP, speed controlled motor
-400-4,000 rpm (reversible)
~$800 + build time
Big thanks to @currentlyrockhounding for some inspiration and @hisglassworks for the wonderful diamond laps and supplies!
I can’t wait to show you the projects in the works!

This summer was a beautiful, hot, and chaotic time. The change in light from spring to summer ushered in the vibrant greens, contrasted by shimmering earth tones and highlighted by the weekly rains.
People condensed and evaporated on a monthly basis. It was as if we all subconsciously agreed the juice was worth the squeeze, squoze it until just the pulp remained and gobbled that up too.
I would wake up early in the morning to see the butterflies searching for their breakfast, and stay up late to watch the fireflies dance the night away.
Now there’s a swimming spot outside of town with the most beautiful mimosa trees, plenty of shade, and boulders that provide the perfect place to watch the water flow by. One of those places you don’t ever think to try to photograph because you’re too immersed in the moment.
I picked an agate out of that water, it rode around with me for a while before i decided to open it up and see what was inside. I let my mind relax and I went back to the memory of that day. The dappled light shining through the trees and the flashes of color all around with the flowers in full bloom. The piece on the left came quickly.
The other half of the agate sat on my table for months. I struggled to find context for it until I went back to the spot, focused on the landscape and the larger processes taking place. During that second trip I found the piece of milk bottle glass that reminded me of a the clouds, which lead to contemplating the continuous journey water takes; the piece on the right came shortly after.
The moment versus the cycle; the idealized version versus the experienced nature of physical reality.
The need to remember versus being intentional and present in the moment.
Releasing on the equinox brings balance to these aspects as we enter the autumn and harvest what grew during the summer.
These two pieces are available as a pair and delivered in a beautiful wooden box. The coordinates to the swim spot will be provided to the purchaser.
