We badly need more objectivity in our sport. Probably the hardest call to get right these days is whether something is a parry or a mal-parry. Frame by frame audio of this touch objectively shows that there is a parry sound before there is a light sound, meaning this is objectively a parry. But comparting the timing of two sounds made very close together is not something humans are good at making this call nearly impossible to get right. Made even more difficult by the face that in video there is no audio, essentially just making this call a wild guess. @allstar.fencing and I are working on a protocol to make parries completely objective so that referees won't have to make unnecessary judgement calls in these situations. A blue light has been added to the machines telling when blade contact happens. We are currently working on improving that protocol to make it much more obvious so that this situation is no longer a situation where a guess needs to happen.
