These days weddings seem catered around social media, so I was thrilled when this couple had no desire for trends or performances, just honest memories. These are some photos from a wedding at the City Winery in upstate NY last summer. Felicia + Will did not want their day focused around photos, so after a brief portrait session on the outdoor patio, the rest of the day and evening just unfolded and was documented organically. The space was a pretty great spot to have a party. The industrial building brick, the open spaces and how guests could feel like they were just hanging at a brewery/winery rather than confined to a typical wedding venue. I appreciated how the main indoor space was flooded with natural light from the mill windows, but also complemented by the moody string lights and candles. It only works like this when there’s time. Christine and Brian gave themselves 2 entire hours after their first look for their couple photos, no rushing, no watching the clock. So we kept moving. Different corners, different light, a new backdrop every few minutes… and then something softer, quieter, almost unnoticed. Some frames feel like editorials. Others feel like they forgot I was there. Nothing forced. It just kept unfolding. That’s the difference, and the biggest thing to consider with a first look, because it is not about the photos, actually, it is about how much time you enjoy each other on your wedding day. Things just got a whole lot brighter for 150 Connecticut kids! Together we raised more than $120,000 to support Horizons at CT State Norwalk at Monday’s golf tournament and fundraising dinner at the Shorehaven Golf Club. I was honored to emcee, lead our live auction, and paddle raise as The Good News Guy! Lucas wowed the crowd with his incredible Horizons success story! (He’s got an eye on Boston College and thinks Fordham University is incredible!) “Horizons at CT State Norwalk is not just a summer program, it is a 14 year commitment to children and families in Norwalk. From early childhood through high school graduation and college or career launch, Horizons walks alongside students every step of the way.” Congratulations to Renee Chapman Rosenbluh, Maria Hedus, Emelyn Northway, Devon Settembrini, Kyla Bennett, Mackie Spadaccini, and the many others who made the event shine!
