A couple weeks ago I was able to attend the @dorisdukefdn award ceremony where one of my oldest/longest friends @allisonorr was a 2026 recipient. I am so proud of her and always inspired by her work and what she has created in the world with @forkliftdanceworks She’s always been a creative force going all the way back to junior high when we first met. Congratulations Allison!

We are culminating our exploration of 💦 in Central Texas with the Colorado River - or our Colorado in Texas. The state’s longest river - it serves many. From rice and oyster farmers to recreational boat users, all kinds of plants and animals to Austin residents who rely on it as our only source of drinking water. 💧💧💧
Once a wild river, she has been damned, channelized, turned into lakes and straightened.
What does the river want? This a question I have been considering throughout the #wayofwater project.

What if the movements of everyday work could be seen as art?
Join social choreographer Allison Orr for Labor as Dance — a conversation and film clips exploring her ethnographic and artistic process. Orr’s large-scale performances celebrate the beauty, skill, and collaboration of essential workers.
Following her talk, Duke’s Katya Wesolowski (Cultural Anthropology & Dance) will moderate a discussion with students applying Orr’s methodology in their own research with turf specialists, equipment managers, and facility operators at Wallace Wade Stadium.
