🏆MYSTIC VALE 🏆won a prize for Best Sound as part of the Montevideo Fulldome Film festival in Uruguay! Mystic Vale is a real forest near where I grew up, and also represents the first location I began making photogrammetry scans when I started this research in 2016. I spent the last decade trying to better my skills to capture environments for immersive projects, but this scan of mossy trees in the mystic vale ravine has always been a sanctuary to me, and still one of my fav point clouds. Happy to share this film with the world. The film features an incredible spatialized sound composition from Arthur Desmarteaux. This professional training workshop will introduce you to video mapping techniques using the projection mapping software Madmapper. This software is often used in media arts and in the theatre for projecting video footage onto a variety of forms and surfaces. By adapting projections to specific spaces, participants will be able to combine recorded and live footage in real time. First, they will develop a project based on process mapping and examples of video creation. Secondly, they will create a projection model based on prior examples and influences. This ongoing project Under the Kelp Forest will eventually be developed into a planetarium film for domes on a subject close to my heart- Ocean ecology and conservation. 👉 Jasmin Schuster from Kelp Rescue Initiative is one of several scientists there to talk about restoring kelp forests in the Salish Sea, including the shorelines along the southern gulf islands and how a cascade of events from the ocean blob to sea stars and sea urchins has affected this marine ecosystem. #penderisland #experimentalfilm #salishsea #kelp

MUTATIONS SPONTANÉES
Grâce à une captation vidéo réinterprétée en temps réel par l’IA, le public se voit transformé en créatures biomorphiques faites de coraux, de lichens, de formes mycéliennes ou encore bactériennes dans une myriade de mutations qui s’enchaînent. Brouillant les frontières entre organismes vivants, ces êtres uniques reproduisent de surcroît les mouvements et gestes de la personne filmée, ce que magnifie une projection occupant l’espace central. Cette œuvre découle des recherches menées par Allison Moore lors d’une résidence au centre Sporobole dans le cadre du Chantier IA.

TERRITOIRES FLOTTANTS
Dans cette fresque, les écosystèmes du fleuve Saint-Laurent sont évoqués selon un rythme qui rappelle leur mouvement naturel. En combinant des images par photogrammétrie avec des captations vidéo originales de la flore et la faune aquatiques ou terrestres, les artistes dressent un portrait poétique de la biodiversité qui s’y trouve. Elle met en lumière la beauté vulnérable de ces milieux confrontés à des pressions environnementales grandissantes. Des enregistrements sonores réalisés en Matanie appuient et rehaussent les séquences filmées. MATIÈRES À PROJECTION : une série de bancs d’essai initiée par le centre et soutenue par le CALQ à laquelle participent des artistes qui utilisent la projection vidéo à des fins audacieuses et inusitées.  We acknowledge the support of the Canada council for the arts.
