Final Projects: Winter Semester 2025/26 Institute for Art Sciences and Art Education Design, material culture, and experimental practice (dae & @textil_angewandte ) — Florian Janez Gutmann (@alleswird.gutmann ) cmyk-w code patch + the textile as proto-digital “cmyk-w code patch” is a material exploration into the intertwinement of textile and digital culture. It focuses on a key peculiarity of computation as a dual-state environment. Weaving is an early form of image-making which provided the now „digital“ logic of binary states and their parallel processing: the two positions of a weaving heddle and the simultaneous inscriptions of yarns held between them. In “cmyk-w code patch”, the cmyk color system serves as a reference to today’s translation process of turning digital images into physical, analog forms. The colour patches offer a space for combining and playing with the available spectrum, while the distance of the viewer equates to one of the states that the digital can be read as: -> closeup – split colours – decipherable logic in the isolation of a bit or pixel -> far away – mixed colours – application of logic into a cohesive readable image “The textile as the proto-digital – her processes and inscription into computerlogic and coding” is the textual extension of the project, examining the parallel erasure of textiles from digital histories and of women from the history of early computing. Screening @erdstall 31.1.2026 20:00 "We are making a film about mark fisher" Dm for adress The film was made with no budget, no studio backing and no institutional permissions. Sophie Mellor and Simon Poulter, working as Close and Remote, developed the film between 2024-2025. Through instagram (@markfisherfilm ), they enlisted the support of 70 people to make the film. The film explores solidarity, shared labour and digital connectivity. It enacts what Fisher insisted was still possible – decapitalised cultural production, collective agency among the ruins of neoliberal atomisation. A reminder that DIY doesn’t mean private – it means working together.

Digital Defenseline (2025) at Sieb.Der.Sinn at @stmarxfueralle construction wood, plywood, paint We see conflicts get transferred into the digital realm all the time. Ru55!an and i5raeli propaganda bots are present forces that are systematically used as a war tactic. The xyz-arrows, a symbol for orienting oneself in a digital 3D-space get a material counterpart, reframed as anti-tank-structures. We need a better line of defense against this online-threat. Not only go into offense, but better our resistance through open social platforms, media literacy, content moderation and open discourse!

🪡🧶 EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT ⚡ rendering by @jakakordis (englische Version ⬇️) "Bereits in ihrem Ursprung sind digitale und textile Technologien untrennbar miteinander verwoben: während die ersten Computer Abwandlungen des Lochkartensystems vom Jaquard Webstuhl waren, so finden sich auch Textilien heute vermehrter denn je im digitalen Raum wieder, nicht zuletzt durch die erhöhte Leistungskraft, welche Darstellungen wie Stoff-simulationen erst möglich machen.  Von Pixelart zu Kreuzstich, Text, auch in seiner etymologischen Nähe zu Textil, in 0 und 1 übersetzt, bis hin zum Bildschirm, auf dem sich wieder ein lesbarer Satz entschlüsselt. So entsteht ein „Gesprächsstoff“ in einem Dialog zwischen Digitalität und Textil, in dem Maschen, Daten und Ideen nahtlos ineinander übergehen und mehrere Formen der Koexistenz bilden." ✨ _____________ "Digital and textile technologies are already inextricably interwoven in their origins: while the first computers were modifications of the punch card system from a Jaquard loom, textiles are now also increasingly found in the digital space, not at last due to the increased performance that makes representations such as fabric simulations possible in the first place. From pixel art to cross-stitch, text, also in its etymological proximity to textiles, translated into 0 and 1, right up to the screen on which a legible sentence is decoded again. Otvoritev v sredo ob 18h. Se vidimo! //DATA MATERIALISM Where does our data get processed? The same way production got offshored and alienated from our current life, data is headed the same way. The perceived immateriality of it comes not at last from the outsourcing of space and power to centers not meant to be seen by end-users. Six of them are already in Europe with more being built, sending and receiving our data without us knowing where exactly it is even being processed. All of our cloud storage is permanently jumping between places, being double or triple saved in different locations. The question of an original dataset is thrown out by the mere endless copying and deleting of the same thing, always showing the identical codearray but never the same one.
