The students went to two of my mural sites and later came to visit my gallery to do a workshop on mural making led by yours truly. This spring, acclaimed artist @alivepaint brought bold color and powerful storytelling to Quitman County Schools with the unveiling of the “Passing It Down” murals at the middle and elementary schools.
Known for artwork featured by ESPN, Netflix, Memphis Grizzlies, Starbucks, and the Memphis International Airport, Jamond transformed local school cafeterias into vibrant spaces celebrating the Civil Rights Movement, Native heritage, and the beauty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Now, the murals brighten the spaces where students learn, eat, laugh, and grow each day, serving as daily reminders to young people across the Delta that their stories, culture, and futures matter.
This project builds on the school murals we helped bring to Clarksdale last year, for “The Joyful Foods Project,” continuing our work to create inspiring spaces where students can experience creativity, connect visually with healthy foods, and spark meaningful conversations around food access and availability.

For the past two years, Griot Arts has partnered with PHA and Rootswell to bring color, culture, and connection into public spaces across Clarksdale and beyond, linking art with access to healthy food and community well-being.
PHA recently connected us to Quitman County Schools in Marks, MS, where we partnered alongside artist Jamond Bullock to create murals that now live inside the school, spaces students and teachers experience every single day.
This work goes beyond what’s on the wall. It shapes how young people see themselves, what they believe is possible, and how they connect creativity to their health, their community, and their future.
What started in Clarksdale is growing, and with continued support, it can reach more schools, more communities, and more young people across the Delta.
