We’ve recently seen an increase in ICE detentions during immigration check-ins. If you or a loved one has an upcoming check-in with ICE or ISAP, here’s what you need to know:
There are serious risks to consider:
1. Missing your check-in can result in your case being closed and possible deportation.
2. Attending your check-in also carries risks: You could be questioned, Asked to wear an ankle monitor, Or even detained on the spot.
So, how can you prepare before your appointment?
Make sure you have an emergency plan in place for your family, finances, property, and especially someone to care for your children if you are detained.
If you don’t have a plan yet, contact ACIJ for support.
Bring a trusted adult with you. Someone who can contact your family if needed.
Remember: You are not alone.
If you’re feeling afraid, unsafe, or unsure, or if you need help making an emergency plan, reach out to us. Let us know if you receive any strange messages from ICE or ISAP.
We can accompany you to your check-in if you don’t have someone to go with, protect your belongings while you're at your appointment, notify your emergency contact if needed, and document anything unusual that happens
These are difficult times, and it’s important that we take care of each other. ACIJ is here for you—and we will keep doing this work.
We refuse.
