The devastation I faced in the week leading up to my 35th birthday last October was indescribably heart-wrenching. I was in a really horrible place. I dont think I'd felt that bad on my birthday in almost 20 years. I didn't want to follow through with any of the plans I had made or see a single person. Which is very unlike me.
My birthday has always been my favorite day of the year. But I just felt so wrecked that day that all I wanted to do was disappear. Despite where I was at, two of my very kind and gracious friends insisted on coming by to support me in my struggle and lift me up from my very low, low.
Thank you, Auggie and Fatimah, for being my angels and bringing some light in a time that felt very, very dark. Your presence meant all the difference. I am forever grateful for your love and support! 💜
Likewise, thank you to Renay for taking me to a belated bday lunch and sharing the incredibly adorable card you made with Christine, Santy, and Deryk. Your thoughtfulness helped carry me through what continued to be a really difficult time.
I'm doing a lot better this year. Finally starting to see the light, as they say lol
And it's been my community that has really been the only thing keeping me going. Thank you all so much for your love 💜

Every perception you have is viewed through a personal lens that is developed over time through life's experiences. It's important to remember that other people don't have the same unique combination of experiences that you do. So we can't always assume that what we're seeing through our lens is the same as what they are seeing through theirs...

Wishing the Happiest of Happy 3rd Birthdays to my beautiful niece Josie!
This is once again, one day late, but she got her gift at her party last weekend and her card yesterday for her actual special day. We played and colored and danced. Because what's a better way to celebrate than to just enjoy her company however she wants to spend it? 🥳💜
(Yes, I regret nesting the word "Birthday" at the bottom of the card, but she's only 3 and can't read yet, so I'm trying not to overthink it. Lesson definitely learned for future cards, tho lol)

People sometimes tell you what they think you want to hear to assuage their own sense of guilt or shame. So it's always important to notice not just what they promise but what they actually do and how they leave you feeling.
You may have been spending so much time distracted by the beautiful roses they said they wanted to give you that you missed the razer sharp vines they were stabbing you in the back with at the same time.
Take a step back. Listen attentively. Reflect. Notice patterns. And remember that your feelings are always valid.
I always love walking in the pride parade. People are endlessly colorful, happy, and full of love from the beginning, right through to the end!
It's a space where everyone is accepted and thus truly makes for a special experience 💜❤️💙💚🧡💛
