"Sidewalk Portal v2" was exhibited at @theblanc_ny for the "$99.99" exhibition, curated by @blairsimmons and Ariel Oakley.
"Sidewalk Portal v2" invites viewers into a whimsical exploration of urban landscapes obscured by construction. Through the nostalgic lens of a View Master, this artwork transforms everyday scenes of sidewalk sheds into intimate, primate moments.
Inspired by the hidden beauty within temporary barriers, each photo captures the beginnings of construction through peeking into these portals. What appears as mundane or inaccessible to the passerby is reimagined by inviting the audience to contemplate on the transformation of public spaces.
The piece engages with the exhibition's theme of "landscapes" by highlighting the dichotomy between public accessibility and private observation.
2024. Thank you to everyone who looked through the portals and experienced my slides.
pt1. a glimpse into my thesis, beyond: for those of you who know me, you know how much I love to take photos and capture memories. But since I'm always behind the frame, i'm rarely in the shots - almost as if i were a ghost. Maybe there's a way to show our presence through something else - something BEYOND the physical.
Well, to explore this idea, i started looking for inspiration. I was especially drawn into Nicole Cohen's work. Up to that moment, i was going towards a more static imagery but something felt missing. I believe that the memories that we store in our minds are like moving images rather than static pictures - so, I decided to reintroduce the ghostly feeling by using projection with a live video feed.
I identified three distinct phases: physical absence, fitting in (myself with others & others with me), and coexisting. With coexisting, i decided to focus on the "memory keeper" (aka. the photographer). I wanted to bring the interaction between those in front of the camera and those behind it into this physical and digital space. With Beyond, the audience actively engaged in the creative process and they became active participants in the installation.
And here's a small piece of info abt the sence of space: first, we had the memory keeper. Then, we had a subject - a person who's posing for the photographer. Last but not least, we had a frame in which the memory captured by the photographer and the photographer itself were projected. #thesis #installation #videoart
Zeynep Elif Ergin is a visual artist from Istanbul, Turkey and currently living in Brooklyn. Through a combination of video installations, photo books, and participatory art, Ergin explores the themes of human connection, memory, and layers of portals. Her works focus on a single subject over time, documenting found objects, clothing lines, and glimpses through sidewalk sheds, and attempting to unfold stories behind these traces: who wears those clothes, who left that object behind, and what has happened in those spaces.
Ergin’s professional expertise extends to product/visual design and branding. She is a proud recipient of a Master of Professional Studies in Interactive Telecommunications from NYU TISCH, where she was honored with the prestigious Elena K Parker Scholarship for Storytelling. She also holds a BA in Media and Visual Arts from Koç University, further solidifying her artistic prowess.

A Letter From A Neighbor documents my obsession with my neighbors' clothing lines through photographs, videos, and written notes.

This collection explores the boundaries between public and private spaces. As I began talking about the project, I realized it could be seen as strange or maybe even inappropriate. But after reading about artists like Deb Sokolow and Sophie Calle, I know my curiosity is not uncommon. As @debsokolow said in her art assignment The Stakeout, “I encourage people to be more observant of their surroundings. People often miss what's happening around them. There's something important about paying attention to others and being curious.” Calle’s work, on the other hand, highlights the voyeuristic practice of observing the everyday.
With this piece, I’m asking: What are the limits to public and private space?
I’m projecting videos from the collection onto a suspended clothing line, creating an immersive experience that connects the physical and visual, accompanied by an audio element where I share my thoughts. The audio becomes my way of reciprocating the vulnerability my neighbors have shared with me, creating a quiet dialogue with the audience. This installation invites viewers to slow down, observe, and reflect on the quiet yet profound moments that shape our shared spaces and experiences. #debsokolow #sophiecalle #voyeurism #video #installation #public #private #art #videoart
Excited to share the visual design I created for the Denver Product Summit 2024, happening on October 24, hosted by Fuego UX and Crux Digital. This 1-day conference brings together Denver’s top software leaders in product, design, and development for a day of collaboration, learning, and networking.
The visual design—spanning the logo, banners, tote bags, and social media posts—was inspired by Denver's mountains and the idea of a "summit" where industry leaders come together. I used Monument Extended for its bold, geometric style, perfectly capturing the spirit of the event.

Neighbors’ fall collection just dropped. 🧺 Clothing lines have a way of revealing the quiet presence of those who live there. The clothes hung out to dry give little hints about daily life—what they wear, their routines, and the simple fact that someone’s there. This is part of an ongoing project where I’m capturing my neighbors' curated clothing line visuals. #portal
concept idea: turning the “World Upside Down” series into prints
In the rush of city life, where everything seems to be moving fast, I like to pause and observe the often-overlooked details around me. This ongoing project reflects my fascination with everyday objects and scenes that people typically ignore, especially random items unexpectedly found on the floor—items that aren’t supposed to be there. Featuring 44 images, this series turns a simple archival method into a practice that highlights the unusual aspects of the ordinary. Each photo captures what might otherwise be missed, transforming it into a focal point for reflection.
