I had so much fun assisting @lillianaguinaga with this vibrantttt mural 😊 I loved this collaboration because we both have a surreal sense of style, and we were able to indulge in UV reactive accents, which is something I incorporate into my personal art. Lillian decided to name the octopus Itza, meaning “water magician” in Mayan, and I named the frog Satouri 🐙🐸
We did this for @quepasta_nola_latin_streetfood at @siberianeworleans ‘s kitchen. Chef Amanda requested an “octopus in a forest with a deep sea” type of vibe…. Plus the restaurant frequently has octopus in their food/ menu! We finished on national Latina day, which I found ironic because me, Lillian, and chef Amanda are all Latina 💃🏽it’s like it was meant to be lol…
I was able to explore with spray paint, which is a medium I don’t use often, but caught onto pretty quickly 👩🏽🎨 im not sure how to exactly explain it, but the size of this mural made it seem more personal to paint. I was easily able to get in “the zone” and connect with this piece, along with Lillian. It was overall a nice, calming experience and the whole process naturally flowed 🐙

The Rot
I find that a lot of my art lately is very emotional. It’s much I can say about this piece just bc of how personal it is, but as a whole this piece sums up to the theme of resilience even in bareness and vulnerability. Flesh is absent because it was spent, given, and worn down. The gold skeleton doesn’t represent death and it’s not meant to horrify. It’s to show what’s underneath survival. I tried to humanize what’s avoided.
When I initially started this painting it was to help me through a rough patch. Bone felt like the only honest way to depict how stripped I felt. But as I continued painting through the days, the meaning expanded. Everywhere you look these days you see brutality. Our people being displaced and harmed, while it’s all reduced to images we scroll past. It feels unforgiving and it adds to the roughness of what already goes on in our personal lives. It weighs on my heart and mental heavily. To me this piece became a symbol of what it means to endure in a world that demands you to be strong without offering rest.
I can view this piece with despair, grief, loss, and heartbreak. But it’s really about continuing to love, feel, and exist even if you don’t have armor.
I wanna invite you to sit with discomfort
What’s left when you peel back the layers?
Just posting this #timelapse before I complete final touches of this painting…

I never formally posted this, but here’s a portrait I did of my mom quite a while ago! Today I came home to her cooking for Christmas dinner and was reminded of this piece 😌 I love my mum sm!! Her essence is always absolutely beautiful! 👸🏽
The Crow (Clarity, Truth, and Transformation) isn’t cruel for no reason. Sight is exchanged for understanding, because unfortunately seeing clearly can hurt more than being blind

I’ve been wanting to do one of this videos for a while now. I’m always asked what painting murals is like and what the creative process looks like. So here it is! I’ll definitely be posting more videos talking about my own process or just to talk :D
