speaking of birds, here's my little bird in oil from painting class exercise today. inspired by Fred Cuming's "Robin in the snow". happy I painted light layers! Cuming is a great painter, very understated - makes it seem easy, but...

Quiver
This exhibition is an iteration of previous works exploring the “orb” form. Extending the recurring themes of light, circles and blurred boundaries, this opportunity to access multiple screens enables the integration of various versions, culminating in an abstraction of ideas informing the work: multiplicity, “all at once,” entanglement, parallel play, infinity, forever, symbols, ascension, “self” and more.

dropped off my works for may+june exhibition today (detail / crop in first pic). plotter prints of one of my specture hand code based drawings of names of extinct species in 3d text/3d space. the plotter links the points as it draws and recreates connections in the physical world. creates structures.
this drawing works for me in multiple orientations. I like the texture in the pen lines. it looks great up close (detail shown in pic)
second pic is another print facing up the other way. Jack said it looked like a shearing shed (happy with that). amazing what environments / landscapes / structures these species create in digital worlds
will post more on the exhibition soon
Excited to have Linda Loh (Mel) at @invisibleart.space in May for a studio residency + exhibition!

Andrew Garton is a musician, film-maker and writer, with a history in community media, beginning with radio and open access video in the 1970s, television in the 1980s and the internet from the 1990s. His works have been screened, performed, broadcast and installed throughout Southeast Asia, Europe, and Australia.
He’s notable for his music and bands — in the 1970s-’80s with Monsterio Delicio, S10-45, Private Lives, Kling Klang, The Astrobeatniks, Lingo Babel, White Punks on Hope and Back from Nowhere, later creating electronic music — from generative soundscapes (Lost Time Accident), spoken word operas (Fierce Throat – a screaming choir), structured improvisatory Terminal Quartet, techno, Headlock and prog, Son of Science.
Andrew was also co-founder of experimental new media arts group Toy Satellite (1995-2005) with Justina Curtis, and created a vast catalogue of installations, performance works, interactive media, landmark streaming projects, commissioned websites, publications and lectures contributing to local and international festivals, conferences and symposiums.
Musically, recently Andrew returned to a semi-acoustic ensemble Smitten Bridge, an international collaboration comprised of flamenco, 3/4 and steel string guitars, marimba, electric and acoustic bass, percussionists, backing vocalists, woodwind, mouth organ and brass, as well as forming a post-punk 'fusion' trio Rat Kangaroo along with Chip Wardale and Mark Tallon.

"Know Me" is a poetic realism style film showing the interconnections between the forests of Sarawak and some of the Indigenous peoples living there, as well as the impacts of biomass loss over time. The film weaves 1955-1963 8mm footage filmed by British WW2 veteran and linguist, Ian Urquhart with Andrew Garton's DV8, HDV and HD footage filmed between 1999-2014, along with time-lapse animations by artist, Mirranda Burton. It's a unique glimpse at a special place and culture at risk of further loss.

"Forged From Fire - The Making of The Blacksmiths' Tree" tells the story of the Australian and international community of blacksmiths, artists, welders and volunteers working together following the tragic and traumatic 2009 Black Saturday bush fires to create The Blacksmiths' Tree, a three tonne, 9.8 meter tall gum tree made from copper and stainless steel. The film shows that beauty can come from resilient and connected communities during the recovery period following an horrific event such as this.
