I honestly don’t know where to start. This part year has been so draining and I was at a point where I felt like nothing mattered anymore. I was genuinely stuck and I didn’t care about anything anymore. But this past week I was blessed to go to the Dominican Republic to help serve the communities in the sugar cane plantations called “bateys”. The communities consist of Haitian immigrants who came to the Dominican Republic. These people live in some of the worst conditions I’ve ever seen and are getting paid little to nothing for 12-14 hour days but despite all that they’re also so joyful and full of life. Always with smiles on their face and always so welcoming to us! I really got to experience a beautiful mixing of cultures. We learned their games and we taught them ours. We shared food, laughs and great conversations (in Spanish!) This trip made me realize that this is why I’m here. This is my purpose. They showed me what true resilience looks like and helped me to realize that no matter what I’m going through in life I WILL get through with the support of my community. I’m still processing it all and probably will for a while but i truly thank you GOD for this opportunity. It honestly changed my life and I’m ready to go into the world to keep fighting for people who’s voices arnt being heard!
With so much gratitude 🙏🏽❤️
