We may be the last generation able to observe glow-worms. Some scientists say they could even disappear this summer. How can we pay tribute, make a gesture toward this vanishing light? How do we pass on the sense of wonder when all we have left is a blurred, glowing memory of that tiny phosphorescent dot in the middle of nowhere? How can we create an object that allows us to transform our vision—and that of others?
This necklace is a fiction. An attempt to connect a memory, an animal doomed to become one, and an emotion. Something distant, yet familiar, without ever having belonged to us. Something to carry with and within us, like a lost one that stays by our side forever. Something that may, like the glow-worm, allow us to shine when night falls.
The bubble sways, fragile in its casing, reminding us of the contingency of precious things. 🧪
