3.5 billion tonnes That's how much textile wastewater China, India, and Bangladesh discharge into water systems every year from the fashion industry, most of it laced with synthetic dyes that don't break down. Natural dyes and bio-based pigments have existed for a long while, but today, new generations of suppliers are scaling these centuries-old colorings, with better performance and none of the toxic byproducts. Take a look at the full curated list by tocco Editorial team, link in bio #tocco #coloring #dye #naturaldye

What begins to happen when fashion takes its cues from nature? More than we might expect 🍂 Fashion for Good has spent years accelerating innovations that disrupt the textile industry at every stage of its life cycle. The Biomimicry Institute has spent decades asking a deeper question: what if nature’s 3.8 billion years of design wisdom could become the blueprint for how we make, use, and return materials to the world? When these two orientations meet, something shifts. Dyes come from crops instead of petroleum. Fibres are spun the way a spider does it, at room temperature, with water. Enzymatic processes break down synthetic textiles back into their original monomers. Packaging returns to soil. And textile waste in Accra’s Korle Lagoon becomes a site of microbial renewal rather than accumulation. This post brings together innovators from Fashion for Good’s global network and The Biomimicry Institute’s Ray of Hope Accelerator who are each, in their own way, asking the same question: what if we designed fashion as part of life’s continuous cycle? We’re sharing these stories together because the future of sustainable fashion isn’t one invention away. It’s an ecosystem of solutions, each one inspired by intelligence already present in the living world. The Biomimicry Institute translates 3.8 billion years of ecological intelligence into tools, programmes, and initiatives for a regenerative economy. ****The Nature of Fashion: Design for Transformation, TBI’s initiative funded by Laudes Foundation, contributes one thread to this ecosystem. By positioning decomposition as the missing link in fashion’s circular economy, it asks the industry to look at breakdown not as failure but as the beginning of renewal. Swipe through to meet the innovators making that future real. @fashionforgood x @biomimicryinstitute #NatureOfFashion #FashionForGood #RayOfHopeAccelerator #BiomimicryInFashion #regenerativefashion

Say hello to two innovators reimagining colour and construction... @algaeing creates their dyes from algae, essentially replacing harsh chemicals with nature’s palette. @resortecs has developed clever heat‑dissolvable stitching to make garments easier to recycle. Together, these innovators are changing both how we make clothes, and how we take them apart. Head to the link in our bio to secure your free ticket to our upcoming exhibition and the unique opportunity to explore the intersection of textiles and innovation first hand. #TheMillsFabrica #FabricaX #GlobalChangeAward #AlumniExhibition #10YearsOfChange #Algaeing #Resortecs

3.5 billion years ago. That’s when life first rose from the sea 🌊 Today, the oceans keep on giving, beyond fishing and trading routes, but infrastructures for climate, materials, and energy. Seaweed forests, shells 🐚, and aquaculture streams are becoming feedstocks for polymers and textiles. Tidal currents and salinity gradients supply power where wind and solar cannot compete. Even desalination brine, once waste, is reimagined as minerals and design. Our Tocco team traced all the best innovations in marine materials and how this industry can grow in the next few years. The sea has always been the origin. Now it may also be a renewal. 👏 Shout-out to the innovators shaping this space, who else deserves a mention?
