We talk about patriarchy like itās a womenās issue, but itās not.
It absolutely harms women. It limits, controls, silences and polices. And due to its very nature it also harms men.
The version of masculinity it sells is narrow and unforgiving. Be strong. Provide. Win. Never fail. Donāt need help. Donāt be soft. Donāt be weak. Donāt be ātoo muchā of anything except powerful.
That script doesnāt serve most of us normal men. It serves a handful men at the very top. It serves power. It serves hierarchy. It serves systems that rely on competition and silence.
A system that harms women and men is not a system worth defending.
Iām sharing this off the back of numerous conversations Iāve had since the release of my track False Thinkers on @interstellaraudio with my brother @heymacmusic . I want us to realise that this as a struggle weāre all in together. Itās not women vs men, or men vs women - that division doesnāt serve either of us.
The goal isnāt to flip the hierarchy. Itās to question why we needed one in the first place.
