Hi! I’m Alison Foreman, a features writer for @indiewire in Los Angeles who just flew out to attend the 10th annual Brooklyn Horror Film Festival 🐀🥳
To celebrate the occasion, I watched eight new movies and judged the gut-wrenching Dark Matter competition. Then, I asked the programming team to pick what I watched on the airplane, too.

in this edition of the dirty 3️⃣0️⃣ movie marathon 🎂🤓🎬, A BEAUTIFUL MIND makes an excellent case for a remake with paul mescal taking over as john nash. the nobel prize winning mathematician was played by #russellcrowe in the 2001 best picture winner about schizophrenia from #ronhoward the year after ridley scott won for gladiator 🏆 and could use more sharks 🦈
i’m genuinely astonished this movie made me as emotional as it did. mental health representation is rarely perfect on screen, but grieving a reality that never existed feels like an artistic idea worth pursuing — and i think we should generously applaud any project that tries to make someone else’s inescapable reality a more understandable experience 🧠❤️🩹 particularly when the pop culture landscape isn’t set up to make that easy for an early aughts director
plus, and i cannot stress this enough: JENNIFER CONNELLY in this!!! and everything!! 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 that woman does not age - and if she needed my organs Infinity Pool style, she could have them in any color she asked
