After a long time of my absence post-wise i have decided to try something new for myself - that being ventilated facial hair. And of course what better challenge than to try cosplaying Aaron Taylor Johnson’s Friedrich Harding? I had some wefts from a black wig laying around, and although i would’ve done a more natural color blend for this i wished to match up with my hair color instead. Still training my hand at this, but at least we’re getting somewhere! For the purpose of keeping this account somewhat alive i have decided to post this experimental process of a wig i was making with zero clue of what i was doing or why, but learning along the way! One more Unicon has passed and that means - one more post of pictures and reflections! This year i chose to take it easy and take a break from speed-crafting and going on stage in order to save up some energy and sanity for the upcoming big projects, so i got to enjoy Unicon from a different side this time. But first things first - I wish to say a huge thank you to those who made Rufus Shinra happen in the first place, i really didn’t think i’d enjoy doing him that much considering that he’s a character a little out of my comfort zone, but i was willing to give it a shot! Närcon is over and so it’s time to post something here as well! I’ve spammed my stories quite a bit already, so might as well post something properly. Närcon was my first convention outside of the Baltic states and i had the honour not only to guest, but also to participate as a judge in two whole contests! Needless to say - the cosplay and show level was insane, my eyes were constantly glued on all the outstanding cosplayers walking by throughout the convention, not to even mention the way i lit up like a little kid every time i’d spot a character i recognized. It felt surreal! This convention experience would not have been so remarkable without the people i met and befriended, both within and outside the organization, for which i am endlessly grateful. Even the most random interactions were immensely enjoyable, it all left me with such fresh energy and motivation! Unfortunately time passed so quickly.. it felt as though these days were so short. Saying goodbye to the people with whom i had the most thrilling conversations and experiences was saddening, but at the same time - the memories we created and shared will always remain with me. Thank you guys for making this so special and being so kind! Also - it was true joy tagging along with our Latvian representative for the big contest and cheering from the crowd, so many emotions all in just these few days.. Aghh! And so this year’s @ccbaltics is over and man, what memorable experience this was! Believe it or not, but this was my very first time in a position of a judge, so i was rather anxious of how all the things would go, but thanks to my judge-colleagues as well as the organizers and staff i truly, like never before felt at comfort and so welcomed by the team, it surprised me and warmed my heart so much to be in the presence of such hardworking and genuine people, and im honoured to say that i managed to make awesome friends along the way! My gratitude cannot be spoken in words to you guys! To a shy and anxious person like myself it meant a lot to be able to step out of my comfort zone and have a sincerely positive experience while doing so! As for contestants - w o w ! Your guys’ originality and different approaches on working with costumes and stage presence seriously inspired me, in fact - one of my favourite “tricks” that won’t leave my mind for some reason has to be of a contestant using pistachio shells for teeth on their mask, it cracked us all up! 🤣 Another of course precious moment was our FF7 group that somehow just.. happened, unfortunately i didn’t have the chance to hang out with you guys too long knowing my busy Turk duties, but i had a blast just being present for those few minutes and taking pictures! It’s funny how writing this makes me a little sentimental, but truthfully - there was nothing i would change about this weekend! Thank you to those who supported me, those who shared their thoughts and kind words, in fact - i really didn’t anticipate to hear such good feedback on my judge’s position as well! I was soooo relieved to know that! I recently received a new wig and used my chance to make a little video on how i deal with a situation like this. My Sephiroth wig had this exact same problem, so i had to figure out ways and this one worked the best! Generally i’ve had this issue with both the circle top and the wider one that splits in the middle wigs, luckily there is a way to fix it so it lays flat and beautiful! P.s. - Make sure your wig head is wrapped in a plastic wrap so the glue that bleeds through doesn’t stain or get stuck with the wig to the wig head!
