I picked up woodworking a few months ago and decided to make @naomiharika this cutting board for her birthday. If you donât know her, she can be pretty particular about aesthetics and no cutting boards we could find online were up to par. She wanted something large, organic shaped, and made of darker wood. I found a slab of black walnut that seemed perfect.
Getting into woodworking wasnât a very thought out decision - I just had an itch to try it. But I think unconsciously it was about working with my hands, being closer with nature, and being further from technology.
Although this is a super quick video, this process took me months. During the process I cut my hands 5+ times, I started over twice, I messed up so many saw cuts, I sanded in the wrong grit order⊠not to mention after recording this video I dropped the board down a full set up stairs and had to start the refinishing process all over again. BUT my favorite part of woodworking is easily the fact that you canât go back or hit edit undo, you can only adapt and move forward.
I was asked to illustrate and design a jacquard throw blanket for Swap recently. It was refreshing to make something tangible with so much of our lives being bombarded with AI and screens. Swipe for the process đŠ đŠ
Snow days in the South hit different. Maybe itâs the rarity of those beautiful little flurriesâŠor maybe itâs the way a few inches of white seem to turn every stranger into a neighbor. Suddenly weâre pushing cars, sharing food, swapping stories in grocery store lines...it's Southern community at its best!
In every issue of Good Grit, weâre honored to share a story from beloved Southern voice @seanofthesouth , and in our Winter issue, he reminds us how snow has a way of softening everything, bringing strangers together, and sparking the type of kindness we wish we saw more often.
What snow story lives rent-free in your memory? The Blizzard of â93? Birminghamâs 2014 Snowmageddon? Or something even better? Tell us your favorite "snow in the south" memory. đđŒ
