More images from around the perimeters of Sizewell A, B and C nuclear reactors on the Suffolk coast. Old buildings, and those yet to be built.
In order to allow walkers to continue to access public footpaths that cross the zone of the (new) Sizewell C building site, there is a gate manned 24/7, that someone has to physically unlock, secure (block access site), let the person through, and then reverse the above steps. The footpath is a dead end that traverses along the fence of one side of the site. The walker then returns the way they came and the security guard has to repeat the whole process. Part of the The SIZEWELL C PROJECT – RIGHTS OF WAY AND ACCESS STRATEGY.

Ever since my parents moved to Suffolk I’ve taken pictures there. Not only because of the place to stay, but also, the rich and varied history of the landscape, has always proved alluring. This pancake-flat county, has a long coastline, and is the most east-facing part of the UK.
Global shipping, 100 mile Sebald inspired walks, American and British airbases, witch hunts, nuclear bomb storage sites, weapons testing, alleged Nazi invasions, UFO conspiracies… to name but a few of the subjects, related to Suffolk, that have piqued my interest the past 15 years. Some of these fascinations have turned into short films, books, some unfinished projects and others short series / single images often under the umbrella title: Sunrise County.

These photographs show Sizewell A, B and C. Past, Present and Future (in that order). A nuclear power station that sits on the Suffolk coast.
Sizewell A, out of action since 2006, and slowly being taken apart.
Sizewell B, the UK’s only PWR, pressurised water reactor, due to be decommissioned in 2035, but recently extended til 2055.
And in the distance Sizewell C, greenlit earlier this year by the government, part owned by Energie de France (who operate Sizewell B), building work has begun, despite much local backlash, and is due for completion in around 9-12 years time.
